Another fantastic day for Asia, 16 of our talents won their contests in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships today
The second competition day was held in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budapest where the Asian boxers continued their amazing performance. Altogether 44 bouts were held on Day2 in Budapest and 16 of our Asian women and men boxers won their contest with top performances.
Iran’s National Championships silver medallist Daniyal Shakhbakhsh won two contests in the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and proved he is a talented boxer at the men’s bantamweight (56kg). The 18-year-old Iranian hope exceeded the expectations once again and he was able to eliminate United States’ Jeremy Adorno in the opening bout of the second competition day.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion powerful Biybars Zheksen lost only one bout in the current year and started confidently against France’s Bilel Gourari in their bantamweight (56kg) contest. The 17-year-old Kazakh boxer was a hard target and tried to box from closer distance. Zheksen caught his taller French opponent in the end of the second round and his attacking style delivered for him a clear success on Day2.
Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokov defeated Mongolia’s youth No.1 Tegshjargal Enkhtur in the first preliminary round of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok this April. The Uzbek star, who is the main gold medal contender in Budapest as well, had to meet with his Mongolian opponent once again in a classical re-match. Khalokov used his tricky style in the bout and controlled their second bout from the first seconds.
Thailand’s southpaw Noppharat Thakhui was bronze medallist in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok and after a few international competitions he arrived to Budapest as an experienced boxer. The 17-year-old Thai bantamweight (56kg) boxer started better than Italy’s EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Daniele Oggiano. The Italian changed his stance and rhythm in the second round but Thakhui adopted it and the younger Thai won their bout by split decision in Budapest.
Uzbekistan’s Timur Merzhanov was ASBC Asian Junior Champion and AIBA Junior World Champion in 2015. Following three years he regained his place in the national team and claimed silver medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok. The 18-year-old Uzbek light heavyweight (81kg) boxer had hard job as first in Budapest but he was able to eliminate Germany’s EUBC European Junior Champion Oronzo Birardi on Day 2.
Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsutsumi was bronze medallist in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok this April. He is not as well-known as AIBA Youth World Champion Hayato or ASBC Asian Junior Champion Reito in the family but he did more than enough to beat Australia’s Jake Clague by unanimous decision. The Japanese lightweight (60kg) boxer can continue his road in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships following his strong attacking performance.
India’s defending AIBA Women’s Youth Champion at the light flyweight (48kg) opened her campaign in Budapest and she did not give any chance to Bulgaria’s EUBC European Junior Champion Melek Zakifova. The referee stopped their unequal contest in the third round and Nitu marched into the last eight in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. In the same weight class Thailand’s Nillada Meekoon eliminated Japan’s Rika Iwata with top performance in the event.
Kazakhstan’s Aizada Yeslyamgali had difficulties in the first round against Ukraine’s taller Anastasia Lisinska but she was able to change her rhythm in time and due her impressive last minutes she was able to eliminate her European rival at the women’s bantamweight (54kg). Another Asian talent in this category Thailand’s Phonnapa Lapan outscored Australia’s Sophie Ingledew and won her opening contest in Budapest.
