Ammar Haidar leads the Syrian team in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships
The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships will be starting in Bangkok, Thailand on July 1 where the Western Asian region’s boxing power Syria could be a surprise country. Their current youth No.1 Ammar Haidar has got enough experiences now to win at least a medal in the continental event.
The Syrian boxers exceeded the expectations in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan two months ago where four of their elite boxers qualified for the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Following these successes, the youth talents are planning to do the same surprises in Bangkok in spite of the difficulties to train continuously in their country.
Adib Habra began boxing only two and half year ago but since than the young 17-year-old talent won two national titles among the junior athletes. The Hama-based bantamweight (56kg) boxer competed at the Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk, Russia one year ago but therefore the upcoming event will be his second big international event. The orthodox stance boxer claimed only bronze medal in the Syrian Youth National Championships but he was selected finally to take part in Bangkok.
Syria’s top youth boxer Ammar Haidar has got experiences from the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships where he reached the Top 8 in Pavlodar. The three-time National Champion light welterweight (64kg) boxer is now ready to take his first medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok. The 18-year-old Latakia-based talent is 180cm and will be trying to solve all of his upcoming contests from longer distance.
Abdulrahman Shoman was only 8-year-old when he started his boxing career in the historical city of Aleppo. The 17-year-old middleweight (75kg) talent claimed two national titles in the recent one year and competed also at the Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk, Russia. The 182cm tall teenage talent has been coaching by his father in Aleppo and working more than 20 hours in the boxing gym every week.
Syria’s fourth youth boxer in action at the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships will be Abdalhamid Youssef who will be competing at the light heavyweight (81kg) in Bangkok. He trains in the city of Tartous and won the last three editions of the Syrian National Championships among the junior and youth boxers. Youssef was also born in 2000 as Habra and Shoman which means he will be able to compete in the qualification event of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games next year as well.
