Amit Panghal, Sarita Devi Laishram and Mohamed Hussamuddin led the Gujarat Giants to beat the Odisha Warriors 5-2
The third-in-a-row match was held in the Indian Big Bout Boxing League which was taking place between the Gujarat Giants and the Odisha Warriors. The away team lost its first contest on Day1 and they suffered another 5-2 loss in their second encounter which was dominated the Gujarat Giants.
Big Bout is the official name of the Indian Boxing League which is a new program of the Boxing Federation of India which will be closing the busy year of 2019. Boxing Federation of India covered all costs for the boxers including flight tickets, accommodation, meals and local transportation, furthermore strong money prizes for the boxers. The competition period of the League is from December 2 until December 21 which is open for top foreign boxers as well.
Uzbekistan’s AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Jakhongir Rakhmonov lost his first fight on Day1 but he defeated his second Indian rival Duryodhan Singh Negi in his second bout. The 19-year-old Uzbek’s success was the first for the Odisha Warriors but the Gujarat Giants amazed following that contest. Their second victory was captured by another AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships boxer Naman Tanwar who defeated Scotland’s Scott Forrest in a hectic heavyweight (91kg) fight.
ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ashish Kumar is India’s No.1 at the men’s middleweight (75kg) who was too strong for Odisha Warriors’ Neel Kamal Singh whose ringside abandoned the contest. Former AIBA Women’s World Champion Sarita Devi Laishram had to meet with another veteran rival Priyanka Choudhary at the women’s lightweight (60kg) but she managed to win that fight easily.
One of the most anticipated fights of the night was held at the men’s bantamweight (57kg) where Mohamed Hussamuddin used his footwork to beat Commonwealth Games winner Gaurav Solanki. Another superb fight was held at the men’s flyweight (52kg) where two AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist boxers such as India’s Amit Panghal and Uzbekistan’s Jasurbek Latipov faced in their meeting. The Indian was slightly better in each round and secured a success for the Gujarat Giants.
