AIBA Women’s World Champion Huang Hsiao Wen was in outstanding shape at the Chinese Taipei National President’s Cup
Chinese Taipei’s most important national event in the year, the President’s Cup for their best boxers finished also for the elite women boxers. All of their four Tokyo Olympians such as Huang Hsiao Wen, Lin Yu Ting, Wu Shih Yi and Chen Nien Chin controlled the President’s Cup and continued their winning path.
The Chinese Taipei National President’s Cup was held in Taichung City where all of their stars are planning to attend and increase their ring experiences in the tough year. The female and male boxers could compete in the National President’s Cup in Taichung City from the high school level up to the elite event. The event was also selection for their junior, youth and elite boxers for the future international tournaments.
Their promising boxers returned to the trainings after the quarantine period a few months ago in June and following the smaller regional events, their Boxing Federation arranged a big national event, the Intercollegiate Athletic Games in Taipei City in the beginning of November and the National President’s Cup followed that competition.
Chinese Taipei is one of the strongest boxing nations in the female part of the sport, three of their boxers became champions in the recent two editions of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi and in Ulan-Ude. Four of their female boxers have already qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.
The first woman gold medal in the President’s Cup was achieved by 19-year-old Tsai Tzu Han who exceeded the previous expectations and defeated the favourite of the light flyweight (48kg), Chin Chien Hui. Fenjen’s Wu Tzu Hsuan achieved bronze medal at the 2019 National High School Athletic Games but the 19-year-old talent proved strong developments and won the title of the flyweight (51kg) following her success over Wu Chia Yun.
Huang Hsiao Wen is the AIBA Women’s World Champion at the bantamweight (54kg) and qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games in Amman where she competed at the flyweight (51kg). The 23-year-old star returned to the non-Olympic category and dominated her final against Ho Ming Hsiang. Tao Ying Yu was one of the gold medal contenders at the featherweight (57kg) but she was unable to box in the semi-finals therefore the title went to Lin Ssu Ting who also competed in the international stage in the recent years.
Lin Yu Ting is also AIBA Women’s World Champion and Tokyo Olympian who did not give any realistic chance to her opponents at the lightweight (60kg). Chinese Taipei’s third Olympian boxer, 22-year-old Wu Shih Yi competed at the light welterweight (64kg) in the President’s Cup and she had to do her best against a teenage hope Su Ching Wen to take the national title.
Wu Pei Yi attended several international competitions but she had a difficult tactical job at the welterweight (69kg) against Huang Yu Ting who competed in the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. Chinese Taipei’s third AIBA Women’s World Champion and fourth Olympian boxer Chen Nien Chin attended at the middleweight (75kg) in the event and controlled her final over Lin Ya Hsuan.
