Among the possible 13 weight classes Mongolia does not have boxer only at the Men’s Super Heavyweight class (+91 kg) but all of their key boxers and big talents were involved to the travelling team.
The Mongolian head coach selected three ladies to the Qualification Event where their best female hope will be Incheon 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist Nandintsetseg Myagmardulam at the Flyweight class (51 kg) while Oyungurel Suvderdene (60 kg is also an experienced woman boxer. Their Middleweight class (75 kg) boxer will be 20-year-old Erdenetuya Enkhbaatar who claimed her second national title in January.
The Mongolian men boxers claimed gold medals in the recent Asian competitions and their current squad is stronger in comparison to the previous years. Mongolia sent their best boxers to the Chemistry Cup and in spite of the fact two of their titleholders could not defend their thrones, three of their young hopes achieved the gold medals in Halle.
Mongolia’s No.1 current ASBC Asian Champion and Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai could not win medal in the Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships but the Lightweight class (60 kg) boxer is ready to show his skills once again in our continent where he is a strong favourite.
ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist 22-year-old Gankhuyag Ganerdene is even better form than last year and defeated Russia’s EUBC European Youth Champion Ivan Abramov in Halle and the host nation’s two best boxers in the Light Flyweight class (49 kg) which was a perfect preparation for him just before the Qualifiers.
Mongolia’s Summer Universiade Games winner Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu returned to the national team in January after his suspension and defeated Morocco’s Rio 2016 Olympian Achraf Kharroubi and also two top German athletes such as AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ronny Beblik and Baku 2015 European Games bronze medallist Hamza Touba in Halle therefore he is also a favourite at the Flyweight class (52 kg) in the Qianan event.
Erdenebat Tsendbaatar will be turning to 20 only later this year but he reached the world class level very quickly and the three-time National Elite Champion secured Mongolia’s third gold medal in the Chemistry Cup in Halle. The Bantamweight class (56 kg) boxer eliminated China’s APB Champion Zhang Jiawei which was one of his biggest scalp in his career and could be Mongolia’s secret weapon in Qianan.
World Military Games winner Battarsukh Chinzorig was titleholder in the Chemistry Cup but this time following his triumph over Kazakhstan’s Aydar Amirzakov in the semi-finals he lost to England’s star Pat McCormack in the gold medal bout. The Light Welterweight class (64 kg) boxer is also among the bests Asians in his weight category and has got realistic chance to beat his top rivals.
Mongolia’s London 2012 Olympian Byamba Tuvshinbat is an experienced boxer with more than 200 bouts like their Middleweight class (75 kg) boxer Narmandakh Shinebayar and both could be delivered surprises in Qianan. Veteran Sandagsuren Erdenebayar (81 kg) and three-time National Champion Tolek Erbolat (91 kg) also involved to the squad.
