The AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event began with the first competition day in Qianan

The AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event began with its first competition day after the opening ceremony in the city of Qianan. After the general weigh-in is realized 226 boxers are fighting for the 36 available quota places in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in China where all of the participating athletes are focusing to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Women’s Lightweight class (60 kg):
ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships silver medallist Ri Tong Sun was not enough shape in the opening round against Indonesia’s Southeast Asian Games runner-up Christina Marwan Jembay and she had difficulties to adopt the rhythm in Qianan. The 28-year-old North Korean favourite stepped into the gas and eliminated her competitive rival in the first preliminary round.
Mongolia’s Oyungurel Suvderdene fought out her place in the national squad still in 2008 and since then she won several international contests during her career. The 26-year-old Mongolian boxer controlled her debuting bout against Nepal’s Police Officer Saraswati Rana and advanced to the next preliminary round when her second opponent will be Korea’s defending ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Oh Yeon Ji who defeated Suvderdene in Wulanchabu last August.

Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg):
Japan’s Tosho Kashiwasaki was bronze medallist in the 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and returned to the national squad in the recent months following his success in their selection event. The 25-year-old Japanese Light Flyweight class (49 kg) boxer had a tough opponent a dark horse in the opening preliminary round DPR Korea’s Kim Un Song who won the Umakhanov Memorial Tournament in Russia a few months ago. Japan’s pride controlled the bout and defeated a top rival and can prepare to his next bout against Philippines’ Rogen Ladon who was seeded No.1 in Qianan.
Kyrgyzstan’s Turat Osmonov had a great year in 2014 when he won more than 85% of his international contests and claimed bronze medal in the Asian Games in Incheon where only Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Champion Birzhan Zhakypov was able to stop him. After a difficult year Osmonov regained his place in the national squad and won all of the rounds against Australia’s Josh English which was is opening bout in Qianan. Turat Osmonov will now face with Uzbekistan’s defending ASBC Asian Confederation Champion Hasanboy Dusmatov in the last 16.

Day 2 Schedule:
After the opening day 23 contests will be holding on Saturday in Qianan where the Women’s Middleweight class (75 kg), Men’s Flyweight class (52 kg), Men’s Lightweight class (60 kg), Men’s Light Welterweight class (64 kg), Men’s Middleweight class (75 kg) and Men’s Light Heavyweight class (81 kg) will be in action.
