Afghanistan’s youngest talents impressed at their Schoolboys National Championships

The Afghanistan National Boxing Federation hosted the Shahid Hameedullah Memorial Tournament for the junior and schoolboys on end of July and the Afghanistan Men’s Junior National Championships in the first week of August. Their third event within a month was the Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships  

The competition was hosted by the Afghanistan National Boxing Federation with the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee at the Physical Education & Sport Centre in Kabul. Boxers who were born in 2009 and in 2010 were eligible to participate at the Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships.

Afghanistan claimed two bronze medals at the 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Kuwait City and their new generation also has the potential to impress in the international stage. Despite the difficulties in the country, Afghanistan hosted several national competitions in 2023 and all of the age groups were involved to their commitments.

Rustam is a newcomer in this level but he had the speed the beat all of his rivals in the smallest weight class including Salar of Mashal Markazi in the final. Ahmad Ullah became the second winner of the National Championships, he defeated Mohammad Taref in the final of the 37kg weight class.

The 40kg weight class was one of the strongest categories in the Afghanistan Schoolboys National Championships and among the high number of participants, Munirul Haq claimed the gold medal. Usmani Boxing Club’s Rahmat Ullah won the busy 43kg weight class in Kabul, he had a successful strategy against Tawab.

Another boxer from the Usmani Boxing Club, Farhad bagged the title of the 46kg weight class in Kabul, he destroyed Haqmal’s defence successfully. Abasi’s Mohammad Khalid smashed his final opponent and earned the title of the 61kg weight class, while Ahmad Ullah (67kg) and Langar Ahmad (+70kg) were the further sensations of the Schoolboys National Championships.

The Afghan talents are planning to compete in the next edition of the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships which will be scheduled later this year.
