Aarati Bomjan and Rijon Rumba proved their talents in the Changya Gurung Championships

Nepal’s 2nd Late Changya Gurung International Boxing Championships was held at the Manang Society Monastery in the Buddha Park in Swayambhu.
Previously Nepal arranged a training camp and a dual match together with the neighbouring Bhutan which was called the Himalayan Showdown Friendship Tournament in Kathmandu. The event featured earlier this month and supported the relationship between the two developing boxing countries.
The President of Nepal Boxing Mr. Ram Awale, the former Asian Games bronze medallist coach Mr. Deepak Maharjan and many other officials watched and followed the 2nd Late Changya Gurung International Boxing Championships.
Nepal’s International Technical Official, Mr. Puskar Raj Pant was the Technical Delegate of the 2nd Late Changya Gurung International Boxing Championships.
Altogether 11 bouts were held in the first competition day and 14 fights in the second day of boxing in Swayambhu. Some of the regions from India also joined the competition in Nepal which saw challenges between the schoolboys, junior, youth and elite boxers.
Aarati Bomjan is a new sensation in Nepal’s female boxing life, she competed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships as well. The light flyweight (50kg) boxer used her excellent technical skills to beat a top boxer, India’s Kalpana which was a world-class battle between them in Swayambhu.
Nepal’s next female national team member, Bimala Shrestha had also an Indian opponent in the event, Ariba but she managed to win that the women’s featherweight (57kg) bout in the same way as Aarati Bomjan.
Rijon Rumba is one of the most talented boxers in Nepal among the schoolboys and he controlled his +70kg weight class contest against Anshul Pathi well enough.
The boxers from the Punjab region such as Tasbia (women’s junior 48kg), Harmanpreet Singh (men’s junior 54kg) and Manbinder Singh (men’s junior 63kg), all won their final contests in the event.
The 2021 World Boxing Championships competitor Pradip Maharjan had enough experience at the elite bantamweight (54kg) to beat Fursang Lama in a hectic contest.
Nepal’s National Games bronze medallist Puran Sunuwar trains in the Tribhuvan Army Box Club and he had the skills to beat Ayush Shrestha at the featherweight (57kg) in another tight bout.
Another Army boxer, the Prakash Dahal Memorial winner Khagendra Rokka Magar needed still a great third round to beat another national team member, Bikram Pariyar by 4:1 split decision in the elite lightweight (60kg).
