A former Asian bronze medallist, Mr. Prabin Tuladhar is the new head coach in Nepal

Nepal Boxing selected its new head coach for the elite national team and their management officially introduced Mr. Prabin Tuladhar in his new position.

As a boxer at the light flyweight (48kg), he competed first at the 1983 Asian Boxing Championships in Naha, Okinawa in Japan which was his debut in the international stage.

He moved up to the flyweight (51kg) in 1984 and not only participated in the South Asian Games in Kathmandu on home soil but he bagged a silver medal and just a top Indian boxer was able to stop him in the final.

He was selected to participate at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games as part of the Nepali delegation and he enjoyed his competition in the United States. Tuladhar lost to Malawi’s Peter Ayesu in the Round of 32 in the Olympic Games at the flyweight (51kg).

Tuladhar defeated a strong Sri Lankan boxer, Weerasinghe in the quarter-finals of the 1985 Asian Boxing Championships which guaranteed his medal in Bangkok, Thailand. He lost to only a star boxer of the period, Leopoldo Serrantes of the Philippines in the semi-final but his Asian bronze medal became his career highlight.

Following his several national titles in Nepal, he returned to the international stage at the featherweight (57kg) in 1989 and he competed at the first edition of the Mayor’s Cup in Manila, Philippines.

He is currently 57-year-old and he dedicated his whole life after his active boxing career to support the preparations of the next generations of boxers in Nepal.

He is an IBA 2-star coach in Nepal and his pupils won dozens of titles at the Bir Ghaneshman Singh National Championships and other regional competitions.

He was the head coach of the Nepal Army Boxing team and after his successes, he was appointed to lead the national team.
