Olympic Games winner Hasanboy Dusmatov leads the Uzbek team in the Asian Games

The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation will send maximum number of ten boxers to the upcoming Asian Games which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia in the second part of August. The Uzbek team has got such big stars as Rio 2016 Olympic Games winner Hasanboy Dusmatov, AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Ikboljon Kholdarov and ASBC Asian Champion Israil Madrimov.
The Uzbek national team topped the team rankings of the Asian Games in 2006 and since the country became independent their squad is a power in the multisport event. Uzbekistan’s women boxing life developed well in the recent years while their world class men team impressed in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and also in other AIBA and ASBC competitions as well.
Yodgoroy Mirzaeva was the first Uzbek woman boxer who qualified for an Olympic Games and following her two bronze medals in the recent ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships, she is ready to do bigger things in Jakarta. Chinggis Khan Cup winner 21-year-old Tursunoy Rakhimova and National Champion Raykhona Kodirova are also involved to the travelling team.
Hasanboy Dusmatov is the current Olympic Games winner and the reigning two-time ASBC Asian Champion at the light flyweight (49kg) who is still unbeaten also in the World Series Boxing. The Uzbek star, who was named as the Best Boxer of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, will be one of the main favourites of the Asian Games in spite of his unexpected loss at the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup.
Jasurbek Latipov attended first at the 2010 edition of the Asian Games and after eight years he will be returning to the multisport event but much better background. He claimed already three medals in the recent editions of the AIBA World Boxing Championships and he is the current ASBC Asian Champion at the flyweight (52kg).
Shakhobiddin Zoirov won the gold medal at the flyweight (52kg) in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and since then he moved up to the bantamweight (56kg). The Uzbek star did not fight out his place in the Asian Games squad following his loss to former ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov who will be joining to the top team at the very first time.
Uzbekistan’s new lightweight (60kg) champion Shunkor Abdurasulov claimed bronze medal in the St. Petersburg 2016 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and robbed to the top of the elite boxers in 2018. Ikboljon Kholdarov claimed bronze medal in the Sofia 2014 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and since then his development is continuous. The 21-year-old Uzbek achieved silver in the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships and he is among the favourites of the light welterweight (64kg).
Uzbekistan’s welterweight (69kg) National Champion and Strandja Memorial Tournament winner Makhmud Gaipov had to replace AIBA World Champion and Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist Shakhram Giyasov in the national squad and will be there in Jakarta. Israil Madrimov was silver medallist in the Incheon 2014 Asian Games at the welterweight (69kg) and following his plenty of tournament titles and gold medal from the last ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships he is a top hope at the middleweight (75kg).
