Heroes of the Commonwealth Games the Sri Lankans are ready to compete in the Asian Games
The developing Sri Lankans will be sending three women and three elite men boxers to the boxing tournament of the Asian Games which will be taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia from August 21. The President of Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Mr. Dian Gomes is expecting some surprises from his team in the Asian Games.
Sri Lanka has claimed amazing three bronze medals in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast this April which was their biggest success in boxing in the recent decades. The Sri Lankan women and men elite team competed at the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup, at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament and also in the Kapolri Cup as preparation to the Asian Games following their training camps in Kazakhstan and in Turkmenistan.
Their female No.1 Anusha Dilrukshi Kodituwakku is Sri Lanka’s veteran woman boxer who finally achieved her career highlight an important bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast this April. Kodituwakku, who was involved to the national team in 2003, was one of the pioneer woman boxer in Sri Lanka who spends her final year in the sport and the Asian Games could be one of her last big competitions.
Keshani Hansika Kasturi Arachchige is member of the national woman team since 2013 and following her unexpected loss in a national event one year ago she regained her place in the squad quickly. Hansika attended in all of the major boxing competitions excluding the Olympic Games and won key contests also in her last preparation at the Kapolri Cup.
Krismi Ayoma Dulanjani Dharmatilake attended in the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships where she was quarter-finalist and proved strong developments. Following several international events on her back she will be representing Sri Lanka at the women’s lightweight (60kg) in the Asian Games.
P.M. Thiwanka Sandaruwan Ranasinghe had an amazing success at the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and he was bronze medallist in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games this April. The 26-year-old light flyweight (49kg) boxer will be Sri Lanka’s weapon in the upcoming Asian Games.
Vidanalage Ishan Roshan Seneviratne Bandara also achieved bronze medal in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in April as Ranasinghe and has got all of the skills to make surprises in the Asian Games as well. The 27-year-old flyweight (52kg) boxer is powerful in spite of his category is one of the lowest ones.
Dushan Dinidu Saparamadu is Sri Lanka’s best man boxer who qualified for the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships last year following his superb performance in the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. The 26-year-old light welterweight (64kg) boxer is expecting a few wins in the forthcoming Asian Games after his successes at the Kapolri Cup.
