The Indian boxing team is expecting strong results in the upcoming Asian Games and Shiva Thapa regained his place in the squad

Boxing Federation of India will be sending maximum number of ten boxers to the upcoming Asian Games which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia in the second part of August. Former ASBC Asian Champion and two-time Olympian Shiva Thapa won his key selection bout against Asian Games Test winner Manish Kaushik and will be representing India at the men’s lightweight (60kg) in Jakarta.
The Indian national team has claimed gold medal in the 2010 and also in the 2014 editions of the Asian Games as well and following their strong development they are planning to exceed their previous results in Jakarta in a few weeks. The Indians achieved three gold medal and altogether nine podium places in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games this April. The Indian Selection Trials decided the final places in the team in the recent days which was held in Patiala.
AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Sarjubala Shamjetsabam Devi defeated Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Pinky Jangra Rani and will be representing India at the woman’s flyweight (51kg). She will be replacing five-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte who has got shoulder problems.
AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Sonia Lather Singh is an experienced boxer at the featherweight (57kg) who has got strong expectations to win her category. India’s third woman boxer will be Ramilal Pavitra who attended in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships but she reached her best results a few years ago.
Amit Panghal was silver medallist in the Commonwealth Games and has done great jobs in several international events in the recent one and half year therefore he is at least medal contender at the men’s light flyweight (49kg). India’s new weapon at the flyweight (52kg) is their Commonwealth Games winner Gaurav Solanki who won the strong Chemistry Cup in Germany as last preparation event.
Mohammed Hussamuddin was involved to the national team in 2016 but since then his development is significant which he proved at the Chemistry Cup in Germany where he won the title. Two-time Olympian and ASBC Asian Champion Shiva Thapa regained his place in the national team following his success in the National Trials against powerful Manish Kaushik which was revenge due his previous loss.
Dheeraj Rangi attended in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in 2016 and currently he is the best Indian boxer at the light welterweight (64kg). Former Commonwealth Games winner and two-time Olympian Manoj Kumar will be their welterweight (69kg) boxer in Jakarta. One of the biggest Indian hopes could be the reigning Commonwealth Games winner Vikas Krishan Yadav who won his Asian Games title eight years ago.
