Vassiliy Levit wins his first bout by KO in the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup in Astana

The sixth edition of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup is holding in their capital city in Astana. Twenty-one preliminary contests were held on the first competition day in Astana where Kazakhstan’s star Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist Vassiliy Levit knocked out his Indian rival.
The event is a top preparation event for the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games and the finals will be held on June 11 and 14 champions will be crowned in the last competition day. Altogether 38 women boxers and 124 male athletes are attending in the sixth edition of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup in Astana.
The first edition of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup was held in 2006 when Kazakhstan’s Olympic Champions as Serik Sapiyev and Bakhtiyar Artayev were the stars of the event. The Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup is traditionally one of the strongest Asian international events where the top boxing nations such as Russia, China, India, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Japan, Philippines and Mongolia are all taking parts.
India’s AIBA Youth World Champion and ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Sachin Siwach Singh moved up to the flyweight (52kg) in the recent weeks but he is still enough tall in that category as well. The 18-year-old Indian talent used his strong footwork in his debuting contest and defeated Kazakhstan’s No.1 in this weight class Olzhas Bayniyazov by split decision.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Zakir Safiullin stopped Kyrgyzstan’s Kanat Nurlan Uulu in the second round with his tough combinations. His veteran teammate Berik Abdrakhmanov had even harder job in the first competition day but finally his hand was raised and defeated United States’ Kevin Montano in a narrow lightweight (60kg) bout.
Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar-based Kuan Kuatov had to meet with United States’ AIBA Youth World Champion Delante Johnson but the 22-year-old local boxer was able to beat his strong and talented US rival by unanimous decision. At the same light welterweight (64kg) Thailand’s Asian Games winner and ASBC Asian Champion Wuttichai Masuk dominated his opening fight against India’s Mayengbam Thomashmetei and advanced to the last eight.
Kazakhstan’s Youth Olympic Games winner and AIBA World Boxing Championships Ablaikhan Zhussupov had a strong rival as first but he was able to beat Belarus’ Rio 2016 Olympian Pavel Kastramin by unanimous decision. Thailand’s three-time Olympian veteran Saylom Ardee also opened his campaign at the welterweight (69kg) and did enough in the final round against Kazakhstan’s Kanagat Maralov to win that narrow match.
Kazakhstan’s AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist 20-year-old Bek Nurmaganbet did not give any chance to China’s Boxam Tournament silver medallist Chen Daxiang and won his debuting light heavyweight (81kg) bout. Kazakhstan’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist and three-time ASBC Asian Champion Vassiliy Levit spent only a short time in the ring and knocked out India’s WSB boxer Sanjeet in his opening heavyweight (91kg) bout.
