Young winners in the Abdusalam Nurmakhanov Tournament which was Shymkent’s boxing highlight this year

The Abdusalam Nurmakhanov Tournament was held in the city of Shymkent where several young boxers won their weight classes and proved their talents. Kazakhstan’s Rustam Khamidov, Kyrgyzstan’s Argen Kadyrbek Uulu, Uzbekistan’s Shokhrukhbek Rustamov and Kazakhstan’s Nurlan Saparbay could be sensations in the future.
The Abdusalam Nurmakhanov Tournament is one of Kazakhstan’s top events where the neighbouring countries are competing also with their new waves. Kazakhstan achieved eight gold medals in Shymkent but Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan both were able to get one title in the strong international competition.
Kazakhstan’s Rustam Khamidov competed successfully in the youth age group in 2016 and proved he is a top option for the future at the light flyweight (49kg). Khamidov and his final opponent Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Syrgak Dzhanseitov both were born in 1998. The Kazakh boxer found the best fighting distance and defeated his technician Kyrgyz opponent in the final.
Kazakhstan’s Kanat Turganbayev delivered one of the biggest sensations in the whole competition in Shymkent in spite of the fact he has been competing in the international level since 2011. The Kazakh boxer was able to beat Uzbekistan’s National Champion and Indian Open Tournament winner Khudoynazar Fayzov in the final of the flyweight (52kg).
Nariman Amantay is the not most famous Kazakh boxer at the bantamweight (56kg) but he defeated all of his four rivals in Shymkent. Kyrgyzstan’s lone gold medal in the event was acquired by Argen Kadyrbek Uulu who is their U21 National Champion and involved to the national team this year. The Kyrgyz lightweight (60kg) boxer defeated Kazakhstan’s Mukhamed Al-Makhmut and Uzbekistan’s Shukurullo Vokhidov in the final stages.
Kazakhstan’s Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament winner 22-year-old Nurzhan Makashbayev attended in several national and international events therefore his experiences were enough to beat Nurbol Sultanbay in the final of the light welterweight (64kg). The next title in the Nurmakhanov Tournament was achieved by Kazakhstan’s Stanislav Choi who has been attending in the national elite events since 2016 and his strength was the difference in the final when he met with Mukhammed Abdykhalyk.
Shokhrukhbek Rustamov is Uzbekistan’s young hope who claimed bronze medal in the Pavlodar 2016 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships where he lost to Kazakhstan’s Aman Kazankapov in the semi-final. The 20-year-old Uzbek middleweight (75kg) boxer knew his opponent and his well-built tactic delivered for him a gold medal making revenge against Kazankapov.
Zhusip Kuandyk won the Aksholakov Tournament in Aktobe, the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament in Karagandy and after these successes he bagged the gold medal of the Nurmakhanov Tournament in Shymkent. The 23-year-old light heavyweight (81kg) boxer defeated Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Vadim Kazakov and Bayanbek Sametov in the final two days of the event.
Abilkhayir Turlanbekov competed in the Season VIII of the World Series of Boxing as member of the Astana Arlans Kazakhstan and his stamina was enough to beat Zhanibek Kartbayev in the final of the heavyweight (91kg). Nurlan Saparbay will be turning to 21 only later this year but he has got high number of experiences in the international competitions. Saparbay defeated ASBC Asian Junior Champion Dmitriy Zisko and FISU University World Champion Nursultan Amanzholov as well.
