The former Algerian head coach Mr. Azzedine Aggoune joined to the Jordan national team two years ago and they have been preparing their boxers to the main competitions. Jordan’s head coach is in the venue of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and we asked him about his thoughts and opinions about our continental event and his country’s boxing present and future.
“First of all I would like to mention the programming of this ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships precise. The competition is the only possibility to qualify for the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships and originally it was planned to be held in June. We would like to congratulate to the organizers especially the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation for their great efforts which they made into all aspects.
We began our preparation late to this event because of the renewal of the Jordan Boxing Federation. The Islamic Solidarity Games will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan short after the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships therefore we had to prepare two goals in the same time. Jordan’s male elite boxers did not compete in any events since May 2016 therefore we were faced with a lot of issues in the periodization and in the psychological aspect of the sport.
The level of the countries in the Asian continent is the highest with host Uzbekistan on the top after their amazing performance in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Following the Uzbeks, Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia are coming in the lines of the Asian countries in my opinion.
I have personally observed the development of certain countries since the Bangkok 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. The development is not coming from the number of the medals which these countries achieved in Tashkent but their performance in the ring shows significant development in comparison to the last Bangkok edition. All boxing experts could realize the number of the RSCs and abandoned contests are decreased in the recent two years.
I am very satisfied with Zeyad Eshaish’s performance who has done a good fight against Uzbekistan’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist Shakhram Giyasov. He is only 19 and lack of the international experiences but he was brave and technically also superb in that contest. His teammate Obada Al-Kasbeh did the same strong performance against a star rival while Mohammad Al-Wadi was also competitive against China’s APB World Champion Zhang Jiawei at the bantamweight (56kg).
I would like to mention the Executive Committee of the Jordan Boxing Federation was recently elected on April 30 during the first competition day of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. I will submit to them my new development strategy and will be discussed how can we realize our long term projects,”
said Mr. Azzedine Aggoune about their performance, the organization and their strategies.
