16-year-old Muslimbek Kuronboyev delivered the main sensation in the Uzbekistan Junior National Championships in Urgench
Uzbekistan’s Junior National Championships was held in the city of Urgench which is located in the Western region of the country near to the border of Turkmenistan. Uzbekistan’s junior No.1 Asadkhudja Muydinkhodjayev was not able to win his next title, he had a surprise loss in the final to Muslimbek Kuronboyev due his sickness.
The Uzbekistan Junior National Championships was held in 15 different weight classes: 42kg, 44kg, 46kg, 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg and +80kg. The event was the first selection in Uzbekistan to the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships which will be held in Davao, Philippines this August.
The first gold medal in the Junior National Championships was achieved by Avazjon Yuldashev who won also the Margilan International Junior Tournament this year. The 15-year-old talent eliminated Maruf Raupov in the quarter-final and Shakhboz Yunusaliyev in the semi-final which were his key bouts. In the final of the event he was too strong for Asadbek Muratov and claimed the title in Urgench.
The second gold medal was achieved by Namangan’s Musabek Abdurakhmonov who had to do his very best to beat Musakhon Isakov in the final of the 44kg weight class. Bukhara’s Umed Jurayev was silver medallist in the last edition of the Uzbek Junior National Championships at the 42kg weight class and since then he is at the pinweight (46kg). The 16-year-old talent had great stamina in the final against Aybek Tulegenov which was enough to win his first junior national title.
Previously unknown Ruslan Abdullayev was a big surprise in the Uzbek Junior National Championships in Urgench where he defeated Amirbek Ibodullayev in the final of the light flyweight (48kg). Temurbek Dekhkonov reached great results in 2016 when he spent his first year in the juniors and claimed silver medal in the Uzbek Junior National Championships. The 16-year-old boxer moved up to the flyweight (50kg) dominated all of his contests in Urgench and won the title after beating Bekzodbek Isadullayev in the final.
Asadkhudja Muydinkhodjayev is Uzbekistan’s No.1 in the junior age group who arrived as titleholder to the Junior National Championships. Following international junior tournament triumphs he advanced to the gold medal bout in Urgench but he was sick in the final of the light bantamweight (52kg) and he suffered an unexpected loss to host city’s Muslimbek Kuronboyev. The final verdict was 3:2 to the Urgench-based boxer but Muydinkhodjayev is a great talent in our sport and surely will be done a successful comeback in his next competition.
Tashkent region’s Amber Gloves Junior Tournament winner Khayrulla Alimatov achieved silver medal in the last edition of the Uzbek Junior National Championships but this time he was able to change that into a brighter one in Urgench. The 16-year-old bantamweight (54kg) talent had a narrow semi-final against Navoy’s Asadbek Abdiraimov but following that he was able to control his final against Andizhan’s Rakhmatullo Tashpulatov.
Khorezm’s Sardorbek Yakubov won the title of the featherweight (57kg) following his surprise success over Amber Gloves Junior Tournament winner Javlonbek Yuldashev in the semi-final and Asadbek Tukhtasinov in the gold medal bout. Karakalpakstan is a special region in Uzbekistan near to the Kazakh border and they have got always strong boxers. Their new talent Margilan International Junior Tournament bronze medallist Sherzod Kodirbayev shined in the final of the lightweight (60kg) and won the title after beating Davron Ikromiddinov.
Andizhan’s Khabibullo Kholikov achieved the next gold medal in the Uzbek Junior National Championships in Urgench where he defeated Sukhrobjon Kayumov in the final of the light welterweight (63kg). Asadbek Jumaniyazov was silver medallist in the Margilan International Junior Tournament two months ago where he lost to Khurshidbek Abdubokiyev in the final. Urgench’s next big hope met in the final once again with Ferghana’s Abdubokiyev and did revenge due his previous loss.
Ferghana’s Komiljon Yusupov defeated all of his rivals in the Margilan International Junior Tournament and he was able to repeat that strong performance in Urgench as well. Tashkent region’s Madiyar Rejepov also won the gold medal in the Margilan International Junior Tournament and dominated all of his contests in the Junior National Championships. Following his RSC triumphs he defeated Dzhizak’s Kamronbek Rakhmonov in the final of the middleweight (75kg) by unanimous decision.
Tashkent’s Jasur Yuldashev is also another key future hope in Uzbekistan who proved once again, he is in different level than the other junior talents in the country. The 16-year-old boxer was too strong for Andizhan’s Shokirjon Abdulazizov in the final of the light heavyweight (80kg). Dzhizak’s Shokhrukh Almatov did not compete in the recent junior events but his skills were enough to win the last gold medal of the championship after his success over Andizhan’s Samandar Sattarov.
