Mr. Herbert Embuldeniya passed away in Manila

On behalf of the Asian Boxing Confederation President Mr. Serik Konakbayev would like to inform all boxing friends Mr. Herbert Embuldeniya passed away at the ICU of the Makati Medical Center in Manila at the age of 85.
Mr. Herbert Embuldeniya was born in Sri Lanka in 1931 and started his career as a schoolboy boxer and became an AIBA International Technical Delegate. He worked in four editions of the Olympic Games and five Commonwealth Games as official between 1982 and 2008. Mr. Herbert Embuldeniya lived with his wife and daughter in Canada in the recent decades but never forgot his Sri Lankan roots.
His wife Mrs. Nieva Embuldeniya is also served the world’s boxing life as AIBA Supervisor and they were known as the boxing couple in the whole globe. Sri Lanka’s currently best Referees & Judges are all of his pupils.
Mr. Herbert Embuldeniya’s unexpected death was a deep shock for not only to the whole Asian boxing family but also to the world. The entire boxing family lost one of its great person who served our beloved combat sport in the recent decades.

We will maintain him in our best memory.
