Ghossoun brothers shines in the Syrian National Championships
The Syrian National Championships was held for their men’s elite boxers in their capital city in Damascus where their top boxers such as the Ghossoun brothers, Housen Al-Masri and Mohamed Moulayes won their titles. In spite of the Civil War and political crisis in the country, boxing is still important in Syria which is thankful to ASBC EC member and President of the Syrian Boxing Association Mr. Issa Al-Nassar.
Altogether 13 teams with 64 elite men boxers competed in the Syrian National Boxing Championships which was also a selection event for the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. The upcoming continental championships will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from April 28.
Army’s Housen Al-Masri is an experienced boxer at the light flyweight (49kg) who competed also in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok and claimed several medals in the recent AOB competitions. The 26-year-old boxer was too strong for Tartous’ Yamen Hasan in the first final of the championships.
Latakia’s Ward Ali was bronze medallist in the Syrian National Cup last October but this time his efforts were enough to beat all of his rivals in the National Championships including Mohamad Labeb Merie in the final of the flyweight (52kg). The third gold medal of the national event was won by Ibrahim Al-Hasan who achieved the lone title for the Police team after beating Seban Hasan in the bantamweight (56kg).
Mohamed Dib shocked all of his rivals at the lightweight (60kg) and following his bronze medal at the Syrian National Cup he reached his career highlight this time. Mohamed Kher Mousatat was involved to the national team in 2015 and he could be ready to win contests also in the international events this year. The Army boxer was too smart for Esmael Sakor of Latakia in the final of the light welterweight (64kg).
Ahmad Ghossoun is Syria’s best boxer currently who claimed bronze medal in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok and silver in the 2014 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. The 21-year-old top talent dominated his welterweight (69kg) final against Police’s former national team member veteran Abdelmouen Aziz and secured Army Boxing Club’s fourth gold medal in the Syrian National Championships.
Army’s fifth gold medal was delivered by Mohamed Hasan who defeated Police’s Abdul Rahman Alani in the final of the middleweight (75kg). Yahia Taha was gold medallist in the Syrian National Cup last October and the young talent continued his winning path in the National Championships where he triumphed over Aboud Nawazi.
Syria’s top national team member Alaaldin Ghossoun, who competed in the last two editions of the AIBA World Boxing Championships, won his first national title in his new category at the heavyweight (91kg) where he defeated Housan Hamouda. The super heavyweight (+91kg) title remained in Mohamed Moulayes who was bronze medallist in the 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Amman.
The best Syrian boxers will be there in the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and the country is planning to send athletes also to the Islamic Solodarity Games to Baku, Azerbaijan
