The Chinese ladies dominated their contests in the Strandja Memorial Tournament on Day3
The Asian boxers delivered eight victories in the third competition day of the Strandja Memorial Tournament which is one of the strongest international boxing event in the whole world which began in Sofia, Bulgaria on Tuesday with the participation of 36 countries. The women boxers also began their road to the medals on Day 3.
Among the participating nations China, Chinese Taipei, India, Kazakhstan, Singapore and Thailand represent the Asian continent. Among the Asian nations Singapore is competing in the Strandja Memorial Tournament at the very first time in the history of the event. The top countries of the world such as Russia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, United States of America and England all sent their best boxers to the Strandja Memorial Tournament.
Thailand’s FISU University World Champion Chuthamat Raksat had to meet with a top athlete Russia’s Geliusa Galieva in the first round of the women’s flyweight (51kg) but the Southeast Asian boxer was able to solve that hard job in Sofia. India’s Vanlal Duati replaced their legend Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte in their national team and proved top performance against Wales’ experienced Lynsey Holdaway winning the bout by 3:2.
China’s Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games winner Chang Yuan replaced their star Ren Cancan in the national team and the 19-year-old talent continued her winning path. Chang was too strong for Italy’s Francesca Grubissich at the women’s flyweight (51kg) while her teammate China’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist Yin Junhua also dominated her opening bout against Netherlands’ newcomer Gina Hofman at the lightweight (60kg).
India’s new National Champion at the bantamweight (56kg) is Mohamed Hussamuddin who demonstrated his power against Poland’s Ukrainian-descent Jaroslaw Iwanow in the third competition day of the Strandja Memorial Tournament. Following that Indian success China’s Rio 2016 Olympian and two-time Asian Games silver medallist Zhang Jiawei also won his opening bout against Ecuador’s David Padilla who claimed medal in the recent edition of the Strandja Memorial Tournament.
China’s Wen Yinhang regained his place in the national team at the middleweight (75kg) and he needed to do his very best to beat Wales’ 18-year-old Kyran Jones in a hectic contest. Kazakhstan’s former ASBC Asian Youth Champion Tursynbai Kulakhmet moved back to the middleweight (75kg) in the recent one year and also opened his participation in the Strandja Memorial Tournament. The 22-year-old Kazakh boxer controlled all of the rounds against Spain’s Miguel Cuadrado and advanced to the quarter-final in Sofia.
