Best of the Asians 2016 – Winners

The Best of the Asians 2016 project are finished and 14 winners have been named in 14 different categories. The voting in the social media was a great success in the recent days, Asian Boxing Confederation received more than 1300 votes during the process which shows the great commitment of the sport. The first Best of the Asian awards for the 2012 winners were presented during the 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Subic Bay.
The Best Asian Man Elite Boxer is Kazakhstan’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games winner Daniyar Yeleussinov after the voting process. The Best Asian Woman Elite Boxers is China’s Yin Junhua who became the most successful female athlete from our continent in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Best Asian Men’s Elite Boxers in 2016 – Daniyar Yeleussinov, Kazakhstan, 69kg
Kazakhstan’s Daniyar Yeleussinov was incredible once again in the whole year following his extra performance in the Rio 2016 Olympic cycle. Yeleussinov was named as AIBA Athlete of the Month in 2013 and in 2014 therefore he was the main favourite of the welterweight (69kg) in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The 25-year-old boxer dominated the whole Olympic tournament, bagged gold for Kazakhstan continuing the country’s amazing four-in-a-row Olympic winning series in the category.

Best Asian Women’s Elite Boxers in 2016 – Yin Junhua, China, 60kg
China’s Yin Junhua began boxing only in 2009 but since 2013 when she joined to the national elite team she won several big events. Following her gold medal in the Incheon 2014 Asian Games she was able to get the title in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification in Qian’an this April. Yin Junhua became the most successful Asian female boxer in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where she claimed silver and lost to only France’s champion Estelle Mossely in the final.
Voting: 1. Yin Junhua CHN 32%; 2. Ren Cancan CHN 24%; 3. Nazym Kyzaibay KAZ 11.6%

Best Asian Men’s Youth Boxers in 2016 – Hayato Tsutsumi, Japan, 52kg
Japan’s 17-year-old Hayato Tsutsumi had amazing winning paths in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar and he was able to repeat that performance also in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia in November. The Japanese top talent has got bright future in our sport and following his youth successes he is focusing to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Best Asian Women’s Youth Boxers in 2016 – Pan Sumei, China, 54kg
China has got amazing boxers in the women part of the sport and their youth athletes are also among the bests in the world. China’s next great future hope could be 18-year-old Pan Sumei who won the Balkan Women’s Tournament in Bulgaria and the Hong Kong City Cup among the international competitions. The two-time Chinese Youth National Champion is a great prospect at the bantamweight (54kg).

Best Asian Men’s Junior Boxers in 2016 – Criztian Pitt Laurente, Philippines, 54kg
Criztian Pitt Laurente joined to the Filipino national squad in 2015 and proved top performance in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships and in the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships. Philippine’s top talent was incredible in the junior level in 2016 and secured his nation’s first ever title in the boxing tournament of the Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk.

Best Asian Women’s Junior Boxers in 2016 – Yu Lisai, China, 63kg
China’s technician Yu Lisai is one of the best female junior boxer in the world who proved superb performance in the recent two years. As a beginner among the juniors she won the AIBA Women’s Junior World Boxing Championships in Taipei one and half year ago. As an experienced junior boxer 16-year-old Yu Lisai won all of her international and national contests in 2016 and won the light welterweight (63kg) at the Nations Women’s Cup in Serbia in her peak campaign this year.
Voting: 1. Yu Lisai CHN 40.8%; 2. Anar Kozha KAZ 21.9%; 3. Manisha IND 13%

Best Asian APB Boxers in 2016 – Jasurbek Latipov, Uzbekistan, 52kg
Uzbekistan’s Jasurbek Latipov joined to the national team in 2010 and claimed bronze medal in the 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Following his London 2012 Olympic Games Latipov secured silver medal in the 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championships. He joined to the AIBA Pro Boxing as the first Uzbek athlete in October 2014 where he also continued his winning path. The 25-year-old Uzbek boxer won both of his contests in the APB in 2016 and became the most successful Asian this year.

Best Asian WSB Boxers in 2016 – Aslanbek Shymbergenov, Kazakhstan, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan, 69kg
Astana Arlans Kazakhstan won the Season III and V in the World Series of Boxing and their engine in the welterweight (69kg) is Aslanbek Shymbergenov. The 23-year-old boxer proved top performance in the World Series of Boxing mainly in the last group stage when he was named the WSB Athlete of Week11 in Season VI. Shymbergenov is one of the most experienced boxer in the Astana Arlans Kazakhstan WSB franchise and his victories delivered a semi-final place for the team.
Voting: 1. Aslanbek Shymbergenov KAZ 21%; 2. Xu Boxiang CHN 20.6%; 3. Meirim Nursultanov KAZ 18.1%

Asian Discovery of the Year – Shakhram Giyasov, Uzbekistan, 69kg
Uzbekistan’s Shakhram Giyasov had a few international successes in the recent years but he was able to do the breakthrough in 2016. The 23-year-old boxer moved up to the welterweight (69kg) in November 2015 and following his national title he won the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an and qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Giyasov defeated all of his rivals in the road to the finals in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and he lost to only Kazakhstan’s Daniyar Yeleussinov in the gold medal bout. His silver in Rio de Janeiro was his career highlight and became the new sensation in boxing.

Best Asian Coach in 2016 – Mr. Patricio Gaspi, Philippines
Philippines has got great traditions in our beloved combat sport and their current head coach Mr. Patricio Gaspi, who is the Head of the ASBC Coach Commission, was named as the Best Asian Coach in 2016. Philippines’ top boxers claimed medal in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships, other podium places in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and in the Qualification Events. Philippines’ Criztian Pitt Laurente delivered the country’s first ever title in the Children of Asia Games which shows the development in the Southeast Asian nation.

Best Asian Supervisor in 2016 – Mrs. Karina Picson, Philippines
Philippines has got excellent boxing life and their experienced official Mrs. Karina Picson is one of the hard working person in the Asian continent. Philippines’ top Supervisor worked successfully in the AIBA and ASBC events in 2016 and travelled a lot to cover all worldwide and multisport events with her great knowledge.
Voting: 1. Mrs. Karina Picson PHI 50.2%; 2. Mr. Yue Yan CHN 33%; 3. Mr. Aslan Igubayev KAZ 7.9%

Best Asian ITO in 2016 – Mr. Billy Vong, Macau
Macau is a developing boxing nation in East Asia and their improvements have been done by Mr. Billy Vong. He not only works for Macau’s boxing life but for Asia’s and the World’s sport as well as International Technical Official. Mr. Billy Vong worked in several big international competitions in the recent one year and named as the Best Asian ITO in 2016.
Voting: 1. Mr. Billy Vong MAC 31.9%; 2. Mrs. Shelly Miranda INA 19.9%; 3. Mr. Dilshod Kazakov UZB 18.4%

Best Asian R&J in 2016 – Mr. Jingjing Zhang, China
The Asian referees & judges worked in all of the top international competitions in the end of the cycle. China’s Mr. Jingjing Zhang is an experienced 3-star R&J who had a lot of works in the world’s biggest events in 2016. He delivered his best performance in the Astana 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

The Best Asian National Federation in 2016 – Kazakhstan Boxing Federation
Kazakhstan is one of the key nation in Asia and in the World in our sport and their boxers worked well in the big events in 2016. Kazakhstan claimed gold medal in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships while their athletes topped the team rankings in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
Voting: 1. Kazakhstan Boxing Federation 48.6%; 2. Thailand Boxing Association 21.9%; 3. Uzbekistan Boxing Federation 17.1%
