Ten Kazakh gold medals in the Kamil Safin Youth Tournament

The Kamil Safin Youth Tournament was held in Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan where eleven champions have been crowned in the four-day long competition. Among Kazakhstan’s best boxers in this age group such as Pavel Demenskiy, Nurbol Sultanbay and Aybol Zhambyrbay all won their weight classes while Daulet Yesenov delivered the main sensation in the Kamil Safin Youth Tournament.
Altogether 128 male boxers competed in eleven weight classes in the traditional Kamil Safin Youth Tournament in Petropavlovsk. Boxers who were born in 1999 and in 2000 were eligible to compete in the event in North Kazakhstan which means those athletes could take part who will be there in the youth age group in 2017.
The first gold medal was achieved by Karagandy’s Akhmet Omarov who defeated Astana’s Olzhas Kadyrbek in the final of the pinweight (46kg). Dzhambul region’s Askar Kaysar competed in junior events in 2015 and delivered a sensation in the Kamil Safin Youth Tournament where he defeated high-ranked athletes such as Astana’s Yelaman Butembayev in the quarter-finals, Akmola region’s Bekzat Makzhan in the semi-final and Yernazar Rakhmatullin in the final of the light flyweight (49kg).
Karagandy’s Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup bronze medallist 16-year-old Nurbolat Saparbay had a key contest against Aytenov Brothers Youth Tournament winner strong Yevgeniy Babichev in the quarter-final which he won surprisingly in Petropavlovsk. His dynamism went through to the finals following that success and defeated also Aslan Asylbekov for the gold of the flyweight (52kg).
Akmola region’s Junior National Championships bronze medallist Sultan Musinov came from a boxing family and proved his talent against older rivals in the Kamil Safin Youth Tournament where he defeated Karagandy’s Ermek Serikov Youth Tournament silver medallist Torgynbek Amirov and Adilbek Kenesov in the final of the bantamweight (56kg).
North Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu Youth Cup winner 16-year-old Pavel Demenskiy delivered another sensational performance at the lightweight (60kg). The younger talent defeated Ramazan Abdraman and Astana’s Parviz Abdulla in the road to the gold medal while Azat Zhambyrbay claimed only bronze and Mangystau’s favourite Berik Dzhedibayev lost his quarter-final bout in Petropavlovsk.
Zhezkazgan’s Nurbol Sultanbay competed in the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Tashkent and several other international events therefore his title in the Kamil Safin Youth Tournament was not a surprise. The 17-year-old talent stopped two out of his four opponents in the Kamil Safin Youth Tournament in Petropavlovsk and finally he was too strong also for Murat Turmanbetov in the final of the light welterweight (64kg).
Almaty region’s AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Aybol Zhambyrbay claimed only silver in the Zhetysu Youth Cup six weeks ago but his efforts were enough to get the title in Petropavlovsk this time. The 17-year-old welterweight (69kg) boxer triumphed over Mangystau’s Arman Nurasylov in the semi-final and 16-year-old Aldiyar Kakimov in the final.
Dzhambul region’s Youth National Championships silver medallist Mukhatali Uralbayev advanced to the final of the middleweight (75kg) after beating Almaty region’s Samgar Sharipbek and he had to meet with Russia’s tough Viktor Akhmadeyev for the gold. The 17-year-old Uralbayev was able to win his tactical bout in the final against the Russian and claimed his first title in a big event.
Karagandy’s Dildabekov Prizes Junior Tournament silver medallist Daulet Yesenov shocked Dzhambul region’s AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships silver medallist Khurshedshokh Iskandarov in the quarter-final, Abay region’s AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships competitor Daryn Berikzhanov and Pavlodar’s Artem Marchenko in the light heavyweight (81kg) and claimed the title in Petropavlovsk.
Astana’s Askhat Baydasov secured the tenth Kazakh gold medals in the Kamil Safin Youth Tournament after beating Satpayev’s Adilbek Kenzhebekov in the final of the heavyweight (91kg). Russia’s lone gold medal in the Kamil Safin Youth Tournament was achieved by Artem Rusakov who arrived to Petropavlovsk from Yekaterinburg and defeated Kazakhstan’s and Almaty region’s Ilyas Musayev at the super heavyweight (+91kg).
