World class women bouts in the Chinese Taipei National President’s Cup

Chinese Taipei National President’s Cup was held in Pingtung where more than 300 boxers attended in the competition in various age groups. Chinese Taipei’s key boxers such as Lin Yu Ting, Huang Hsiao Wen and Rio 2016 Olympian Chen Nien Chin all won their weight classes in the female part of the President’s Cup while there were several big surprises in the men’s elite category.
Chinese Taipei’s main boxing event was held for the elite, youth and junior boxers and both genders could compete in the National President’s Cup. Chinese Taipei did great breakthrough in the current year when two of their boxers qualified for the Olympic Games after 20 years of break. Their boxers shined also in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Pin Meng Chieh returned to the world of boxing and defeated AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Lo Ching Ting in the final of the Women’s Light Flyweight class (48kg) which was the first elite gold medal bout in Pingtung. The 29-year-old Pin controlled the final against her teenage rival with quick movements but Lo also proved she will have bright future in our beloved combat sport.
Another teenage talent Chu Ju Chieh, who was quarter-finalist in the 2013 AIBA Women’s Junior World Boxing Championships, was too strong for Lai Pin Hua and won the title in the Olympic Flyweight class (51kg). Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Lin Yu Ting competed at the Bantamweight class (54kg) this time and bagged her next national title in Pingtung.
AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Huang Hsiao Wen celebrated her 19th birthday this year and against Lin Wan Ting she proved she is one of the best female boxer of the country. The Olympic Lightweight class (60kg) was won by Lin Li Wei Hsien in the National President’s Cup following her success against Chiu Sheng Mei in the final of the competition.
Wu Shih Yi is only 19 but her international experiences were enough to get the title of the Light Welterweight class (64kg) where she dominated her final against Chen Ching Hsuan in the National President’s Cup. Chinese Taipei’s best female Welterweight class (69kg) boxer 20-year-old Wu Pei Yi attended in the last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and also in the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships therefore she could be a new hope in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic era.
Chinese Taipei’s best woman boxer AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Chen Nien Chin did not relax too much after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and returned to the trainings with full speed to proved her strength in the competitions. Chen is only 19 but she is among the world’s best Middleweight class (75kg) boxers who achieved her next national title in Pingtung.
Tu Po Wei was silver medallist in the FISU World University Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai one month ago but he was not able to win the Light Flyweight class (49kg) in the National President’s Cup. The 19-year-old male boxer lost to Lin Yi Min in the semi-final of the event while the gold medal of the division finally went to Lin Hung Ta who is the current University National Champion of the country.
Lin Yu Ting achieved silver medal in the Chinese Taipei National Olympic Trials in January but he was crowned at the Flyweight class (52kg) in the President’s Cup following his success over Lu Li Yi. Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Jan Chun Hsien was the main favourite of the Men’s Bantamweight class (56kg) but he was not able to achieve his goal in the President’s Cup. The 19-year-old talent was unexpectedly defeated by eventual winner Lin Yu Chun who claimed silver in the National Olympic Trials.
Hsieh Kai Yu is only 18, who competed in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar in May, but during his first elite competition he was able to beat all of his rivals at the Light Welterweight class (64kg) in Pingtung. Huang Chao Cheng (69kg) and Huang Ning Yen (+91kg) also delivered strong performance in the National President’s Cup in Pingtung.
