World Olympic Qualification Event – Day1 Report

Great ten Asian victories in the opening day at the World Olympic Qualification Event in Baku

The World Olympic Qualification Event started with the first day of preliminaries in Baku, Azerbaijan where 375 boxers from 92 nations are fighting for the Olympic quota places. Among these athletes 97 boxers from 18 countries arrived from the Asian continent in the World Olympic Qualification Event. The Asian boxers won 10 out of their 14 bouts in the opening day in Baku which was an excellent performance from our hopes.

Lightweight class (60 kg):

India’s Dheeraj Singh was amazing in the World Military Games in Korea and following that he joined to the national top team. The 22-year-old Indian boxer controlled the opening two rounds against Guatemala’s Panamerican Games bronze medallist Kevin Alfonso Luna and his efforts were enough to beat his Central American rival.
Thailand’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Pachanya Longchin involved to the national squad last year but proved great performance in the international level in 2015. The youngest Thai team member used his aggressive attacks to build up great advantage in the first and second rounds against Canada’s veteran David Gauthier. Longchin won the bout by unanimous decision and advanced to the next preliminary round in Baku.
Turkmenistan’s Hursand Imankuliyev involved to the national team in 2015 after his great youth career. The 20-year-old talent delivered better performance than in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event and dominated the first round against South Africa’s Asanda Gingqi in Baku. Turkmenistan’s new pride was enough quick to keep his advantage until the final bell and also advanced to the next round.
China’s Shan Jun lost his Box-off in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an where he was near to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The 20-year-old Chinese WSB boxer won all of the rounds against Israel’s former football player Igor Lazarev and delivered Asia’s fourth success in the opening day.
Iran’s Golara Forootan, who is member of the national team since 2007, had enough experiences to start well against Tunisia’s Beijing 2008 Olympian Alaa Shili in Baku. The China Open Tournament winner Iranian boxer fought near to his homeland and returned back to the international level with top performance. The 32-year-old boxer won the first two rounds clearly which efforts were enough to win the whole bout.
Chinese Taipei’s Lai Chu En won one contest at the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an and proved his skills are different than Bahamas’ newcomer Rudolph Regis in Baku. The 20-year-old young Taipei boxer dominated all of the rounds against his inexperienced rival and won their bout by large margin of difference in Baku which was Asia’s sixth success in the opening day.
Tajikistan’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist and two-time Olympian Anvar Yunusov was not enough shape in the opening round against Lithuania’s Edgaras Skurdelis in his opening contest in Baku. Tajikistan’s pride was able to come back to the bout with top performance in the second round and turned back their narrow contest which was Asia’s seventh success in the category on Day 1.

Welterweight class (69 kg):

Syria’s best talent ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ahmad Ghossoun tried to find his best rhythm against Japan’s Ryuji Sato who joined to the national squad this year. The Syrian boxer was not enough shape in the bout and Japan’s new pride was able to beat him in a close contest. India’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Mandeep Jangra did not deliver his best performance and suffered a loss to Spain’s Youba Ndiaye Sissokho in Baku.
Iran’s APB boxer and London 2012 Olympian Amin Ghasemipour is a veteran athlete who dominated his opening bout in Baku against Chile’s Daniel Munoz and advanced to the next stage of the tournament. Kyrgyzstan’s Yktyiar Shabdanbayev replaced Erkin Bolotbek Uulu in the national squad and did enough against Norway’s Jamshid Nazari who was born in Afghanistan which was Asia’s tenth victory in the opening day in Baku.
