India’s Vikas Krishan Yadav is a favourite in the World Olympic Qualification Event in Baku

India’s Vikas Krishan Yadav is one of the Asian boxer at the Middleweight class (75 kg) who need to be watched at the World Olympic Qualification Event in Baku, Azerbaijan which important competition will be starting on June 16. 39 boxers will be qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games from the World Olympic Qualification Event and India’s Vikas Krishan Yadav could be one of the highlight in Baku.
He robbed into Asia’s best boxers in 2010 when he claimed gold at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Baku and silver at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. Vikas Krishan now returns to the venue in Azerbaijan where he claimed gold medal among the youth boxers six years ago.
The Indian talent involved to the national elite team short after his youth successes and achieved an unexpected gold medal at the Asian Games in Guangzhou in 2010 where he competed at the Lightweight class (60 kg). Vikas Krishan moved up two weight classes in the next year and he was bronze medallist at the 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships also in Baku which is a key point in his career.
Vikas Krishan qualified for the boxing tournament of the London 2012 Olympic Games which was not enough successful for him but decided to continue the trainings with higher intensity. After a short break he returned to the Incheon 2014 Asian Games at the Middleweight class (75 kg) where the Indian boxer claimed bronze medal and had a big battle against Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly in the semi-final.
The Indian boxer was great also in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok last August and bagged another important silver medal in his career. Vikas Krishan dominated the South Asian Games this year but as he could not qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games yet he needs to attend in the World Olympic Qualification Event in Baku.
Vikas Krishan met with Kenya’s Nickson Abaka in an APB Bout last weekend in Kolkata which was the first ever contest of the AIBA Pro Boxing in India. Vikas Krishan saved power in the APB Bout but his efforts were enough to beat his veteran African rival in t6he six-round long battle in the front of the home crowd.
The Indian boxer will have great opponents in the upcoming World Olympic Qualification Event in Baku, Azerbaijan where Ireland’s Baku 2015 European Games winner Michael O’Reilly, Ukraine’s Strandja Memorial Tournament winner Dmytro Mytrofanov, Romania’s London 2012 Olympian Bogdan Juratoni, Ecuador’s APB boxer Marlo Delgado and Italy’s Salvatore Cavallaro also will be there.
The first competition day of the World Olympic Qualification Event is June 16 after the general weigh-in and the drawing ceremony.
