Arslan Shamyradov defended his throne in the Turkmenistan Junior National Championships

Turkmenistan Junior National Championships was held in the city of Ashgabat where only Arslan Shamyradov was able to defend his throne while twelve new champions have been crowned in the event. Boxers who were born in 2000 and in 2001 could compete in the thirteen weight classes during the national junior event.
Their boxers have been preparing to the Children of Asia Games which to be scheduled in Yakutsk, Russia in July and will be trying to follow the performance of their youth athletes who competed successfully in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships where Nuryagdy Nuryagdyyev claimed silver while Muhammet Berdibayev bronze.
The first gold medal of the Turkmenistan Junior National Championships was achieved by 15-year-old Ahmet Gylychjanov who defeated Dayanch Orazmuhammedov at the Pinweight class (46 kg). Schoolboys National Champion Kasym Cherkezov of Ashgabat is younger brother of Shamurat Cherkezov who competed in several international events in the recent years. The 15-year-old Light Flyweight class (48 kg) boxer had a great bout against Akmuhammet Rozyyev and won his first national title.
Merdan Amannazarov trains in Ashgabat and claimed bronze medal in the last edition of the Turkmenistan Junior National Championships but this time he could win the Flyweight class (50 kg) after beating Gurbanguly Muhammetgulyyev in the final. The next gold medal in the event was achieved by Arslan Gurbanov who defeated Umar Rozmetov at the Light Bantamweight class (52 kg).
Schoolboys National Championships silver medallist Yunus Shamsiyev of Lebap delivered one of the biggest surprise of the event as he was too quick for Junior National Championships silver medallist favourite Arslan Garajagulov of Balkan region. Garajagulov moved up from the Pinweight class (46 kg) to the Bantamweight class (54 kg) in the recent one year but he could not stop his younger rival’s attacks in the final.
Lebap region’s Arslan Shamyradov is the most experienced Turkmen junior boxer who took part in the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg and won his opening bout there. He had a tough opponent in the final of the Featherweight class (57 kg) Vladislav Salanov but the 16-year-old top boxer was able to find the best tactic against him. Shamyradov moved up two categories since the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships and proved he is among the medal favourites at the Children of Asia Games.
The Lightweight class (60 kg) gold medal was achieved by Shukur Ovezov who triumphed over two-time Schoolboys National Champion Saparmyrat Odayev in the final. Lebap’s Ovezov lost to Balkan’s Odayev in the final of the Turkmenistan Schoolboys National Championships two years ago but now he did revenge. Ezizmuhammet Pazzyev came from a boxing family and proved his strength in the final of the Light Welterweight class (63 kg) against Berdymyrat Atayev of Mary who claimed bronze in the last edition in 2015.
Schoolboys National Champion Rustem Jumayev of Lebap also delivered great performance in the Turkmenistan Junior National Championships and his efforts were enough to beat Ezizmuhammet Rejepgulyyev in the final of the Welterweight class (66 kg). Teymur Amangeldiyev had great results among the schoolboys and after that age group he claimed gold also in the juniors in Ashgabat where he defeated Schoolboys National Champion Arif Rashidov of Dashoguz in the gold medal bout.
Alijan Suhanov made a successful debut in the junior age group and his fighting spirit resulted for him a success over Kerim Jumagulyyev at the Middleweight class (75 kg). Begli Tokgayev claimed his first national title following his great performance over Hursand Madreimov. Baymurad Ishanov eliminated his main rival Yunus Bazarov in the semi-final and continued the winning path against Muhammetguly Mammedov in the final of the Heavyweight class (+80 kg).
