AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event – Day4 Report
The Mongolian boxers and the Central Asians were the heroes of Day4 in Qian’an
Altogether 48 preliminary bouts were held in the fourth competition day at the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an. After the preliminaries 23 nations remained in the competition and among them 21 are Asians. The top nations of our continent such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, China, India, Korea and Kyrgyzstan all have got at least six remained boxers in Qian’an.
Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg):
Philippines’ AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Rogen Ladon proved top performance in the Light Flyweight class (49 kg) once again in spite of the fact he had a tough opponent. Ladon adopted the world class level quickly and his technique was too difficult for Japan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Tosho Kashiwasaki in Qian’an.
Mongolia’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Gankhuyag Ganerdene won his last preparation event in Germany where he defeated tough rivals. The 23-year-old Mongolian boxer is in top shape who demonstrated his power against Tajikistan’s new national team member Shukhrat Sabzaliyev in the event. Ganerdene will now meet with Vietnam’s last man hope in Qian’an, 24-year-old Huynh Ngoc Tan who defeated Turkmenistan’s Dayanch Annaseidov.
Men’s Flyweight class (52 kg):
Korea’s AIBA World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Kim In Kyu returned to the national squad last year and took a valuable bronze medal in the Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia which was his last preparation event. The South Korean boxer had to do his very best to beat North Korea’s top man hope Ri Chung Il and finally his hand was raised after the narrow bout.
Kazakhstan’s defending ASBC Asian Champion Olzhas Sattibayev replaced Ilyas Suleimenov in the national squad just before the start of the competition. The 28-year-old boxer was quicker and smarter than Philippines’ Roldan Boncales who also joined to the national team in the final minutes due Ian Clark Bautista’s shoulder injury. Sattibayev will now meet with South Korea’s Kim In Kyu in the quarter-finals.
Men’s Bantamweight class (56 kg):
India’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Shiva Thapa was in top form in the fourth competition day and the Seed No.1 defeated South Korea’s Lee Myeong Kwan in Qian’an. London 2012 Olympian Shiva Thapa will be fighting for the semi-final with Japan’s Arashi Morisaka who stopped United Arab Emirates’ Saad Mazher Al-Sadid.
Philippines’ Southeast Asian Games winner and Incheon 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist Mario Fernandez did also a successful start in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event. He was confident against Turkmenistan’s experienced Yakub Meredov and advanced to the quarter-finals in Qian’an.
Men’s Light Welterweight class (64 kg):
Kazakhstan’s Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games winner and AIBA Youth World Champion Abylaykhan Zhussupov won his last preparation event the Bocskai Memorial Tournament last month. The 19-year-old super talented boxer was the favourite against South Korea’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist Lim Hyun Chul who was the Seed No.1 in Qian’an. The Kazakh teenager was not nervous in his key bout and defeated his rival in the last 16.
Chinese Taipei’s 20-year-old Pan Hung Ming won his opening battle in Qian’an and the youngster was able to win his second bout in the competition. Pan was able to beat Singapore’s Leong Jun Hao in the fourth competition day and will face with China’s experienced Hu Qianxun who defeated Malaysia’s Khir Akyazlan Bin Azmi in another preliminary bout of the category.
Men’s Welterweight class (69 kg):
Philippines’ ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Felix Eumir Marcial is the main favourite of the Welterweight class (69 kg) in Qian’an who began his road to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the Qualification Event. The 20-year-old rising star defeated Australia’s National Champion Istafanos Kori on Day 4 and continued Philippines’ big series in Qian’an.
Turkmenistan’s Bahtiyar Masharipov competed in the 2012 AIBA Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Astana and after a long break he returned to the sport last year. Turkmenistan’s experienced boxer was too strong for Palestine’s lone athlete Ahmed Harara and advanced to the quarter-finals as fifth from his nation.
Men’s Light Heavyweight class (81 kg):
Kazakhstan’s London 2012 Olympic Games silver medallist Adilbek Niyazymbetov is the Central Asian nation’s key boxer since 2011. The 26-year-old boxer dominated his bout against a big rival Korea’s World Military Games Yang Hee Geun who is a strong athlete but could not solve his tactical issues against Niyazymbetov.
Syria’s Alaaldin Ghossoun lost to Kazakhstan’s Adilbek Niyazymbetov in the recent major international events but defeated almost all of his other rivals. The 24-year-old Syrian, who came from a boxing family, defeated Qatar’s Hakan Murst Nuraydin who won one contest in the Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships but Ghossoun was too strong for him.
Day 5 Schedule:
The quarter-finals will be in action in the fifth competition day at the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an. The longest program will be held in the competition with 52 bouts and the winners of the quarter-finals will be guaranteed medallists in China after Day 5.
