Nepali Team in the South Asian Games

Nepal prepared in Thailand before the South Asian Games
Nepal’s best boxers are ready to fight in the South Asian Games where the boxing tournament will be one of the highlight of the multisport event in Shillong between 13-16 February. Nepal will be sending maximum number of ten boxers to India, three women and seven men competitors to get medals.

Nepal’s best hopes will be attending in the Women’s 51 kg, 60 kg, 75 kg and also in the Men’s 49 kg, 52 kg, 56 kg, 60 kg, 64 kg, 69 kg and 75 kg weight classes. The Nepali team was leading by three coaches in the South Asian Games such as Prachand Sharma, Prabin Tuladhar and Nima Tamang.

The Nepali team was invited for a joint training camp to Thailand which is a great commitment to boxing and an excellent sample of the cooperation between the Asian countries. The three-weeks long sparrings and trainings with the strong Thai team was perfect for Nepal’s developing boxers.

Nepal’s first woman boxer who can show her skills in Shillong will be Minu Gurung who won the selection event at the Flyweight class (51 kg). Nepal’s best woman boxer Incheon 2014 Asian Games competitor Saraswati Rana prepares not only to the South Asian Games but she was registered also to the AIBA Asian & Oceania Olympic Qualifiers. Sangita Sunar is a new face in their women national team who could win the gold medal in the national selection event in December.

Tej Bahadur Deuba of Tribhuwan Army Club won the gold medal at the Nepali National Selection Tournament at the Light Flyweight class (49 kg) and can prepares to his first ever big event. Prem Chaudhary attended in some international tournaments during his career but he can show his improved level in the South Asian Games.

Dinesh Shrestha is one of the most experienced Nepali boxer who won international contests last year and has got chance to reach the final of the Bantamweight class (56 kg) at the South Asian Games. Dan Bahadur Dariami is a newcomer in the national team who eliminated all of his rivals by TKO in the Nepali National Selection Tournament but the South Asian Games will be his first competition out his homeland.

AIBA World Boxing Championships competitor Deepak Shrestha is also an experienced boxer in the international level who will be fighting at the Light Welterweight class (64 kg) in India. The team still contains Doha International Tournament competitor Bikash Lama at the Welterweight class (69 kg) and Dipesh Lama at the Middleweight class (75 kg).
