Bounpone Lasavongsy proved his best in the Laos National Championships
The most important event in Laos their National Boxing Championships was held in their capital city in Vientiane where some surprises have been delivered by their women boxers. Their international level boxers such as Songka Chanthavong, Vilayphone Tawane, Bounpone Lasavongsy and Khamphouvanh Khamsathone all won their weight classes in the Laos National Boxing Championships.
Laos is a developing nation in the Southeast Asian region and following their medals in the Southeast Asian Games and dual matches with their neighbouring Cambodia, the country selected their best boxers after the National Championships. Laos is planning to send teams to the AIBA Asian & Oceania Olympic Qualifiers to China and also to the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships to Kazakhstan in 2016.
Two-time Southeast Asian Games bronze medallist Songka Chanthavong of Army Club moved up to the Women’s Flyweight class (51 kg) and claimed her fourth national title in Vientiane after beating Viphavanh Naphome in the gold medal bout. Chanthavong has got good chance to represent her country in the international level in 2016 following her title.
Laos’ top woman boxer AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships competitor Milvady Hongfa could not get the title in the National Championships as she was defeated by two-time Southeast Asian Games bronze medallist Vilayphone Tawane in the semi-finals who attended in the international level in 2015. Tawane continued the winning path in the final of the Women’s Bantamweight class (54 kg) as well where she was too strong for Tata Saenchon.
Youth star Khamphouvanh Khamsathone took part in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok short after his 18th birthday and following his experiences in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships therefore his gold medal in the youth section was an expected result from the 18-year-old talent.
Relatively unknown Sulaxay Singsavat was the first elite men champion of Laos following his great performance against Chackthavy Sisoulath in the final of the Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg) where Sakhone Lasavongsy claimed only bronze. Two-time Southeast Asian Games bronze medallist Bounpone Lasavongsy of Police Club is the most experienced boxer from Laos in the international level who demonstrated his power against all of his rivals in the National Championships and won the gold at the Flyweight class (52 kg).
Sichanh Inpanya can win his first major title at the Bantamweight class (56 kg) while Vilaysack Chansamone proved his best in the final of the Lightweight class (60 kg). The further champions in the elite level were Noukhith Latsaphao (64 kg) and Damxoumphon Keointha (69 kg) both form their Army Club.
