The Himalayan Showdown Friendship Tournament delivered outstanding female contests

Nepal arranged a training camp and a dual match together with the neighbouring Bhutan which was called the Himalayan Showdown Friendship Tournament in Kathmandu.
The President of Nepal Boxing Mr. Ram Awale watched all of the bouts in the friendly encounter in their capital city. The Secretary General of Bhutan Boxing also followed the bouts during the dual match.
The first contest was held between Niru Gurung of Nepal and Sonam Choden of Bhutan at the women’s light welterweight (63kg). The Tribhuvan Army Club’s Gurung invested all of her power and energies to win their contest unanimously.
Narika Rai, who had a tight 3:2 success over Bhutan’s Sangay Choden at the women’s lightweight (60kg), achieved Nepal’s next success.
Aarati Bomjan represented Nepal at the recent ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai following her national selection success against experienced rivals. The minimumweight (48kg) boxer had a difficult job against Bhutan’s Chimmi Wangmo which she won by 4:1 split decision but their contest was the best in the encounter.
Ramisha Shrestha also developed a lot in the previous one year as Aarati Bomjan and she also gave in everything to her contest in the friendly encounter. She defeated Aarti Hooda at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) and Shrestha’s progress is significant.
Nepal’s experienced Asmita Duwal competed in various international events but she had to do her very best against Norbu Dema at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) to win their meeting by 4:1 split decision.
Bhutan had only a few women boxers in all of the events in the past but they sent six female boxers to Nepal. Their new talent in the national pool of boxers, Kinga Wangmo defeated Nepal’s Barsha Shrestha at the women’s featherweight (57kg) with a great finish.
Tandin Wangchuk delivered Bhutan’s best performance at the boys’ 44kg weight class where he was dominant against Shraman Tamang. Migma Dorji was also better than any of his previous events and he was highly competitive for Nepal’s Laxman Rai.
Tashi Yoezer is member of the elite national team in Bhutan and he represented the country in several international competitions as well. The men’s featherweight (57kg) boxer was too strong for Amrit Thada Rai while Bhutan’s lightweight (60kg) talent, Kinley stopped his opponent, Nima Wangdi Sherpa.
