Seven Asians earned gold medals in the Boxam Tournament where Lennox Lewis was the special guest

Seven of the Asians earned gold medals at the male finals of the Boxam Tournament in La Nucia, Alicante region, Spain today.

The special VIP guest of the Boxam Tournament was Mr. Lennon Lewis, the legend of the super heavyweight and the iconic professional World Champion in the finals of the competition.

The competition period of the Boxam Elite Tournament was February 4-8 in La Nucia, Alicante region, Spain where 17 countries participated for the titles. Altogether 166 female and male boxers competed at the Boxam Tournament in the sunny Alicante region in La Nucia.

Two Kazakh boxers such as Nurzat Ongarov and the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships silver medallist Yernar Karap advanced to the finals at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) in La Nucia. The Dzhambul region’s Ongarov worked from longer distance and his tactics looked effective in the first round against his compatriot and he continued that strong performance until the last gong.

Baglan Kenzhebek progressed so rapidly in the previous years and he used his long-distance tactics against Aktilek Orynbassar who is another future hope at the men’s bantamweight (54kg). Kenzhebek lives and trains in the city of Taraz as Ongarov and he had the solid performance to win the gold medal in his first ever Boxam Tournament.

Kyrgyzstan’s Islam Torobayev moved up to the featherweight (57kg) and he proved his very best in the entire Boxam Tournament. The 22-year-old ASBC U22 medallist Kyrgyz knocked down his final Kazakh opponent, Yerkhan Turdan in the opening minute of their title contest. Turdan turned up the heat after that moment and he was in shape with full concentration to turn back the final.

Zhandos Kydyraliyev and Almat Abduali were the two finalists from Kazakhstan at the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) which guaranteed the next title for the boxing power. The smaller Kydyraliyev moved forward from the first seconds but Abduali had the footwork to keep his opponent on long in most of the exchanges. The young Abduali has done a great finish in the last round and he worked well enough to win this final by 3:2 split decision.

Kazakhstan’s Darkhan Duisebay eliminated one of the top Spanish boxers, Frank Martinez in the last four, and after that success, he prepared well against England’s Patrick Hewitt. The former ASBC Asian Youth Champion Duisebay had only one dangerous moment in the entire final bout which he controlled with his strong tactics.

Kazakhstan’s Biybars Zheksen (60kg) and Kyrgyzstan’s Ikhtiyar Nishonov (67kg) both walked over to the title of their weight categories in La Nucia.
