Sabyrkhan, Akkalykov and Tokhtasynov secured their spots in the semi-finals at the Kazakhstan Elite National Championships

Torekhan Sabyrkhan, Sabyrzhan Akkalykov and the surprise man, Farrukh Tokhtasynov were the bests Kazakhstan Elite National Championships in the city of Karagandy on Day5.

Karagandy hosts usually the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament in the month of December but the regional federation supported to arrange the Kazakhstan Elite National Championships as one of the last events of the year.

The Kazakh elite boxers impressed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships earning several titles in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Their boxers also achieved medals in the recent Paris Olympic Games earlier this summer.

The two-time World Champion and Paris Olympics bronze medallist Nazym Kyzaibay moved back to her previous category, the minimumweight (48kg) and she demonstrated her brilliant technique against Roksana Gasymova. Anel Kudaybergen, Yelyanur Turganova and Delfina Abilkhan are the three further semi-finalists in the smallest female weight class.

Temirtas Zhussupov is one of the veterans in Kazakhstan’s boxing life but the 36-year-old minimumweight (48kg) boxer has impressive technical skills and speed. The World Champion and Asian Champion Zhussupov won all of the three rounds against Temirlan Aytan and he joined the semi-finals in Karagandy.

Almaty’s Zhandaulet Sarsenbayev eliminated his main rival in the previous stage of boxing and he managed his pathway to the next round against Yerassyl Dauletbay. Another top bantamweight (54kg) boxer, Timur Kabdeshov was also successful once again, he eliminated Tursynbek Tazhibayev of the Karagandy region.

Pavlodar region’s Yerbolat Sabyr had some difficulties in the previous stage at the featherweight (57kg) but he proved a much better performance in the fifth competition day against Didar Turebekov, a local boxer. Abay’s Daulet Moldashev and the powerful Assylzhan Serikbay also advanced to the semi-finals in this weight class.

Turkestan region’s four-time Asian Champion and Youth World Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan is only 18-year-old but the welterweight (67kg) boxer is the main sensation of the Kazakhstan Elite National Championships. He used his tricky style of boxing against the 19-year-old Bakhtiyar Anarbayev in the quarter-finals and he is now a guaranteed medallist in Karagandy.

Sabyrkhan’s possible main rivals could be the Youth World silver medallist Yelnur Suyunbay and the experienced Sanatali Toltayev in the final stages of the welterweight (67kg) but both advanced to the semi-finals only by bout reviews.

Almaty’s Farrukh Tokhtasynov was the main surprise of the fifth competition day, he eliminated the National Champion and Youth Olympic Games runner-up Talgat Shayken in a crucial quarter-final battle at the light middleweight (71kg). The promising Asian U22 Champion, Sabyrzhan Akkalykov stopped his opponent, Temirkhan Tezek in this weight class and moved one step forward to the title.

Temirlan Mukatayev, the two-time Asian Youth Champion, is one of the top boxers in Kazakhstan among the 2004 born boxers. The 20-year-old cruiserweight (86kg) talent smashed Sultanbek Aybaruly of the Dzhambul region, and he had the top performance to join the next stage of boxing.
