Muzaffarov, Mirzakhalilov, Tursunov, Asadullayev, Saydrakhimov and Zokirov are the stars of the Uzbek male team in Chiang Mai

The management of the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation selected its 13-strong male team to the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships which will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from November 28 and will be lasting until December 12.

Uzbekistan achieved incredible five gold medals at the Paris Olympic Games but their Hasanboy Dusmatov, Abdumalik Khalokov, Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev, Lazizbek Mullojonov and Bakhodir Jalolov received national honors and also rests after their historic successes this summer.

Uzbekistan achieved also five gold medals in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman in 2022 and three titles in the recent Asian Games one year ago. Their head coach Mr. Tulkin Kilichev selected 13 male fantastic male boxers to Chiang Mai despite of the missing champions.

The Asian U22 medallist Shodiyorjon Melikuziev is the best Uzbek minimumweight (48kg) boxer currently and he has the chance to beat many of his opponents in North Thailand. The ASBC Asian U22 Champion Asilbek Jalilov had successful competitions this year and he will replace Hasanboy Dusmatov at the flyweight (51kg).

The 2021 Youth World Champion Shakhzod Muzaffarov moved back to the bantamweight (54kg) to show his brilliant technical skills. Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov claimed gold medals in the 2018 Asian Games, 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and the 2019 World Boxing Championships and he will return to the international stage in Chiang Mai.

The two-time ASBC Asian U22 Champion Dilshod Abdumurodov and another 22-year-old top talent, Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov both developed rapidly in the recent one year therefore Mr. Kilichev selected them to participate in North Thailand.

The World Championships quarter-finalist and Strandja Memorial winner 25-year-old Mujibullo Tursunov moved up to the welterweight (67kg) in the previous months to make a strong impact in the Asian Championships. Andizhan’s Khavasbek Asadullayev won the traditional Boxam Tournament in Spain this February and he is one of the favourites at the light middleweight (71kg).

Javokhir Ummataliyev is one of their super talented teenager, the 19-year-old Youth World Champion and Asian Youth Champion is ready to achieve his next highlight at the middleweight (75kg). Their Youth World Champion and Paris Olympian 20-yearold Turabek Khabibullayev will be aiming a gold medal at the light heavyweight (80kg).

A tall boy, the 21-year-old Asian U22 Champion Jasurbek Yuldashev was selected to compete for the title of the cruiserweight (86kg) in Chiang Mai. The returning heavyweight (92kg) boxer, Madiyar Saydrakhimov, joined the national team in 2017 and his top achievement is a bronze medal at the 2021 World Boxing Championships.

Uzbekistan has the best super heavyweight (+92kg) boxers in the entire world and Bakhodir Jalolov’s replacement is one of the rising stars of the globe, Jakhongir Zokirov. The 21-year-old boxer has the same athletic skills as Jalolov and he holds already five Asian titles therefore he is the main gold medal contender in the heaviest weight class in Chiang Mai.
