Ukraine will return to the ASBC events and their coaches selected 25 boxers to Chiang Mai
Team Ukraine will return to the Asian boxing map after their first participation at the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships. Ukraine will send a full team, altogether 25 boxers to the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships which will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from November 28 and will be lasting until December 12.
Ukraine competed in Al Ain with successes, their juniors, schoolboys and schoolgirls achieved dozens of medals in their historic first ASBC event. The ASBC Board approved their participation and their staff decided to send maximum number of boxers to Chiang Mai.
The Ukrainians qualified also boxers to the Olympic Games and their Oleksandr Khyzhniak bagged the gold medal at the men’s light heavyweight (80kg) but he has to miss the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
Olha Shalimova (48kg) and Yaroslava Marynchuk (50kg) progressed a lot in the previous years and their current skills are matching with the level of the Asian girls therefore both have medal expectations in Chiang Mai.
Svitlana Umanska returned to the national team after a short break and she will compete at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) in North Thailand. The Youth World silver medallist Tetiana Dovhal is only 20-year-old but she has the experience to beat top rivals at the women’s lightweight (60kg).
The former World Champion Maria Bova is the veteran in the national team and she moved up to the welterweight (66kg). The Women’s World Championships bronze medallist tall Anastasia Chernokolenko will be participating at the light middleweight (70kg) with good chances.
Mary Lovchynska earned several medals in the junior, youth and U22 championships and she could be one of the favourite at the women’s heavyweight (+81kg) in Chiang Mai.
The former European Youth Champion Aider Abduraimov qualified for the Paris Olympic Games at the age of 20 and he did not stop his training sessions therefore he will be there in Chiang Mai strengthening the men’s lightweight (60kg).
The 21-year-old Bozorboy Matyakubov also had impressive youth successes during his career in Europe and he replaced the 2021 Elite World Champion Yuriy Zakharieiev at the light middleweight (71kg).
Further European medallists from various championships such as Ivan Sapun (80kg), Bogdan Tolmachov (92kg) and the Paris Olympian Dmytro Lovchinskyi (+92kg) have also strong expectations in the upcoming Asian Championships.
The European U22 medallist Andrii Yefymovych (48kg), the European Junior Champion Danylo Dryzhak (63.5kg), Elvin Aliyev (67kg) and Danylo Zhasan (86kg) all have the skills to beat several of their opponents in Chiang Mai.
