Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China, DPR Korea, Iran and Kyrgyzstan all made their best ever youth results in Budva
The Asians earned more than half of the titles at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro and became the best Confederation. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China, DPR Korea, Iran and Kyrgyzstan all had their best ever achievements in the history of the competition.
Afghanistan, China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Palestine, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were the participating 13 Asian nations in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Altogether 74 nations and 595 boxers competed in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva.
Kazakhstan returned to the top of the team rankings with six gold, one silver and ten bronze medals in Budva. Their four-time Asian Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan was named as the Best Youth Male Boxer in the event but Yelyanur Turganova, Beksultan Boranbek, One Seilkhan and Sanzhar-Ali Begaliyev also made their best ever performance in Montenegro.
Uzbekistan ranked as No.2 in the championship behind Kazakhstan but ahead of the Russian youth team. The Uzbeks earned five titles in the La Nucia 2022 edition, they repeated the same in Budva but the total number of their 13 medals is a highlight in their boxing life.
China made its best ever Youth World Boxing Championships with three gold, three silver and four bronze medals. The management in China’s boxing invested many efforts to build up their youth squad and their return to the youth world event was a strong strategic success.
DPR Korea returned to the international events in the Asian Games in Hangzhou one year ago and two of their boxers qualified for the Paris Olympics. Following their one bronze in Paris, DPR Korea achieved one gold and one silver in Budva which was their first ever title in this level of boxing.
Iran impressed in the recent ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships in Al Ain and their older boxers also made a record-breaking event in Budva. The Iranians earned one silver and two bronze medals in the event which is their best ever performance in the youth age group.
Kyrgyzstan has never claimed two medals in any of the previous Youth World Boxing Championships but due to Amantur Dzhumayev’s and Tynystan Alybayev’s bronzes in Budva, this achievement was their next top highlight after the first Olympic silver in 2024.
Afghanistan claimed its first ever world medal in the 2023 Junior World Boxing Championships and their boxers won contests in Budva as well. One of their German-based hopes, the tall Emal Hamdam joined the quarter-finals of the competition at the men’s flyweight (51kg).
