Thailand’s Aphichit Chaemdi won his second split decision bout in Pueblo with enthusiasm

Twenty-three bouts were on the agenda at the World Boxing’s U19 World Boxing Championships in Pueblo, United States on Day4 and among the Asian nations, India, Japan, Thailand, South Korea and Kazakhstan each won medals.  

The total number of the boxers is 165 from 25 nations in the United States where 20 champions will be crowned after the finals. India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand are the participating Asian countries in Pueblo. Boxers who were born in 2006 and in 2007, are eligible to participate at the U19 World Boxing Championships in the United States.

India’s Adriatic Pearl Youth Tournament winner Chanchal Chaudhary overcame Australia’s Leah Anderton in the attacks and she eliminated her rival in the busy minimumweight (48kg). The Asian Junior Champion Vini eliminated a well-experienced boxer, Chiara Storch which meant India vs. Australia finished 2-0 on the fourth day of boxing.

India’s next female boxer, Krisha Verma claimed a medal already at the 2022 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Amman and she met a very difficult opponent, New Zealand’s Nikah Perez who has more than 40 bouts. The New Zealander attacked strongly in the second round but Verma had still good responses in the third to win their middleweight (75kg) contest by 3:2 split decision.

India’s Anjali Kumari Singh is another top hope in their youth national team who competed in various preparation events before Pueblo. The Indian was able to keep the focus until the last gong against Japan’s Sakura Okayama and she won their featherweight (57kg) contest.

Japan’s East Asian Youth Games winner Fuma Kumamoto enjoyed a comfortable victory over New Zealand’s Finbar O’Sullivan and he advanced to the semi-finals at the men’s 55kg weight class. Japan’s No.1, the Asian Junior Champion Yuga Fujiki was in different level as South Korea’s Lee Dong Hyeon at the 60kg division on Day4.

Thailand’s Aphichit Chaemdi had a strong finish against Kyrgyzstan’s Dilerbek Sadirov in the previous round of boxing and he won that battle by 3:2 split decision. The Thai lightweight (60kg) boxer repeated the same scenario against Latvia’s Nikolajs Zamjatins and he celebrated another split decision triumph in Pueblo.

Kazakhstan’s Assylkhan Kosherbay made a strong comeback in the beginning of the second round against United States’ Mesiah Nimo and he was able to turn back their 65kg weight class battle with his technical skills.

South Korea lost its best youth boxer, Jin Juan, but their super heavyweight talent Lee Geon Hui exceeded the expectations against Italy’s Vincenzo Guida. The 18-year-old European medallist Italian received a warning as well which supported the success of the new South Korean talent in Pueblo.
