Philippines selected their 43-strong national pool with four Olympic medallists on the board

Olympic medallists as Nesthy Petecio, Aira Villegas, Eumir Felix Marcial and Carlo Paalam decided to continue their boxing career after the Paris Olympics and they are members of the 43 boxers who are working in the pool of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP).

Team Philippines earned fantastic number of five boxing quotas for the Paris Olympics through the three qualification events which hosted by the cities of Hangzhou, Busto Arsizio and Bangkok. The country achieved three medals in Tokyo three years ago and two podium places in the Paris Olympics this summer.

Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam were their silver medallists in the Tokyo Olympics, while Eumir Felix Marcial bagged the bronze in 2021. Petecio earned another bronze in Paris as well and their new sensation Aira Villegas repeated that performance in the last Olympics.

The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines selected 43 boxers to their national pool in the recent days. The pool consists 10 women, 25 elite men, 2 junior men and 6 youth men pugilists who can prepare together and will be able to compete internationally.

The next main goals for the team will be the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand and the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, confirmed by their Secretary General, Mr. Marcus Jarwin Manalo.
