Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan shared the titles at the 16th Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament
Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan shared the titles at the 16th edition of the Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament in Aktau where 13 winners celebrated their gold medals.
Both of the Abdaliyev Memorial and the Shokhr Boltekuly Tournament were preparation events for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships which will be held in Amman, Jordan between November 28 and December 12. All of the 13 official male divisions were in actions in Aktau from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg).
Mr. Shokhr Boltekuly was one of the pioneers of boxing in Kazakhstan, he had an important role to build up the sport in the country during the period of the Soviet Union still in the 1920s and 1930s. He trained several generation of boxers in Kazakhstan and the event holds the name of the iconic boxing coach.
Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were participating in the 16th edition of the Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament off the coast of the Caspian Sea.
One of Kazakhstan’s promising boxers at the flyweight (51kg), Bekzat Aldamzharov had to beat an Uzbek star, the two-time ASBC Asian Champion Nodirjon Mirzakhmedov in the firs exciting final of the tournament.
Two of the local Mangystau region boxers such as Samat Zhetibayev (54kg) and Zholdas Zhenisov (57kg) both won their finals in Aktau. Erkhan Turdan from the Dzhambul region was one of the sensations in the Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament and he bagged the title of the lightweight (60kg) after beating four boxers including Uzbekistan’s Youth World Champion Bakhtiyor Asadov.
The Uzbeks sent a young team to the Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament and their Sayat Ilyasov (63.5kg), Shakhboz Yunusaliyev (67kg), Sirajatdin Khujakhmetov (75kg) and the ASBC Asian Youth Champion Nusratbek Tokhirov (92kg) all bagged the titles. Ilyasov defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Omar Livaza while Yunusaliyev knocked out his Tajik opponent, the 20-year-old Abdugafor Vakhobov.
Kazakhstan’s Youth World Championships silver medallist Daulet Tulemissov won his first main elite title at the light heavyweight (80kg) after beating Uzbekistan’s Sardor Shomuratov. Azerbaijan’s top duo, Sarkhan Aliyev and the Paris Olympian Mahammad Abdullayev impressed in this international tournament once again.
