Mr. Zhai Yuhu – This is a benefit for our boxers to train together with other strong nations in Urumqi
The important international elite and youth training camp is holding in Urumqi and it was organized together with their National Federation, the Xinjiang Boxing Federation and the local sport and governmental authorities.
Mr. Zhai Yuhu is the head coach of the Xinjiang provincial boxing team in China who replied to the Asian Boxing Confederation’s interview questions today. Mr. Zhai Yuhu leads the training sessions together with the foreign coaches which contains several joint exercises and sparring.
The venue of the international camp is the Xinjiang International Boxing Training Centre in Urumqi which has excellent facilities and enough places to host several other countries as well. China, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan are participating in the training camp with youth and elite boxers.
“This is a strong benefit for our boxers to train together with other nations in Urumqi where some of them are familiar for all of us but we have new nations in the international camp as well. We can exchange our experience, our boxers can do the technical and tactical preparations against top level of athletes.
We will have the China Top8 National Boxing Championships in November and this camp is a perfect option for us to prepare well to the event with the support of our foreign friends.
We have been hosting the Xinjiang Provincial Boxing Championships every year in all age groups for both genders. All of the 15 zones of the Xinjiang province are participating in our regional championships. The zones have their own selection competitions before the Xinjiang Provincial Boxing Championships.
We have several clubs throughout the province and the number of the boxers and the gyms are growing. Around 700 boxers are participating in our Xinjiang Boxing Championships which is always a selection for the All-China National Championships.
We have currently two good elite female boxers but our women’s junior and youth boxers are stronger and progressed well. We started women’s boxing relatively late in comparison to the other provinces in China but we will do our best to get better results.
We compete several times in Kazakhstan, our ties are very strong with the Central Asian boxing power and we can support each other.
The Chinese National Games is the most important event for us in 2025 and we will do the best possible preparations for that. We will have selection competitions for the National Games next year but the dates are not fixed yet.
We are planning to send the team to one of the European events in 2025 in order to prepare well to the National Games,” said Mr. Zhai Yuhu in the training camp in Urumqi.
