The 16th Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament had impressive start in Aktau with the participation of 13 nations
Parallel with the 43rd edition of the Karakozy Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament in Shymkent, another international elite event is running in Kazakhstan, the 16th Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament in Aktau.
Both of these international competitions are preparation events for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships which will be held in Amman, Jordan between November 28 and December 12. All of the 13 official male divisions are in actions in Aktau from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg).
Mr. Shokhr Boltekuly was one of the pioneers of boxing in Kazakhstan, he had an important role to build up the sport in the country during the period of the Soviet Union still in the 1920s and 1930s. He trained several generation of boxers in Kazakhstan and the event holds the name of the iconic boxing coach.
Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are participating in the 16th edition of the Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament off the coast of the Caspian Sea.
Daniyar Rozmetov, the former ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships bronze medallist, is a 19-year-old talent from Turkmenistan who started the first round slowly against Kazakhstan’s Baglan Kenzhebekov and he could not change his rhythm to win this bantamweight (54kg) contest in Aktau.
Kyrgyzstan’s Nurzhigit Dyushebayev, the World Championships quarter-finalist, moved up to the bantamweight (54kg) this year and he had a big battle against Uzbekistan’s Mukhammadkodir Mamirjonov in the session. The Uzbek was ASBC Asian U22 Champion but his Kyrgyz opponent used his distance better to win their meeting in Aktau.
The lightweight (60kg) is strong in the Abdaliyev Memorial and also in the Boltekuly Memorial Tournaments in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Tokyo Olympian Tayfur Aliyev impressed in his opener against Kyrgyzstan’s Turgunbek Imankadyrov while Kazakhstan’s Alimzhan Beskempir also won his bout with great performance.
Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Youth silver medallist Omar Livaza stopped Moldova’s Igor Vacula but two strong Uzbeks such as Sayat Ilyasov and Javokhir Koysinov both won their quarter-finals at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
Turkmenistan’s Asian Games bronze medallist Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov was too strong for a local boxer, Agazhan Kadyr at the light middleweight (71kg) but Azerbaijan’s strong duo as Sarkhan Aliyev and Nabi Isgandarov both advanced to the semi-finals.
Kazakhstan’s Youth World silver medallist Daulet Tulemissov, Turkmenistan’s Arslan Nurchiyev and Uzbekistan’s Sardor Shomuratov succeeded in the quarter-finals of the light heavyweight (80kg). Uzbekistan’s young stars at the heavyweight (92kg) as Aynazar Kenesbayev and Nusratbek Tokhirov proved their progress in the session.
