Mr. Billy Vong – The level of the competition in Al Ain was surpassing my expectations

Mr. Billy Vong worked as an International Technical Official and led the R&J Draw Committee at the recent ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolgirls & Schoolboys Boxing Championships which was held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. The Asian Boxing Confederation arranged an interview with Macau’s experienced official after the competition.

Mrs. Billy Vong is not only the engine of Macau’s boxing but he has been supporting the success of the international events since 2011. He worked in several editions of the Asian Boxing Championships and arranged several competitions in Macau to develop the country’s boxing life.

With over 460 athletes from 26 nations participating in this championship, I expected to see some potential young and grassroots boxing talents in Asia. These championships are a platform for discovering future boxing stars.

The level of the competition was excellent, surpassing my expectations. The venues were top-notch, providing excellent facilities for both athletes and spectators. The seating arrangements allowed for good visibility and comfort. The championship was well organized by the ASBC management teams, technical officials, and the LOC, with efficient management. This ensured that everything ran smoothly, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the competition.

We could see the top nation’s grassroots level of boxing and training is very successful for them, especially in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and India. They demonstrated their traditional strength and technical powerness. They were well-prepared and disciplined. Their training and preparation were evident in their strategic approach and performance in the ring. The level of competition was extremely high and reflected the boxers from these nations stood out for their exceptional skills and dedication to the sport.

After this event, we can be sure that Asia’s future in boxing looks incredibly promising. The championships highlighted a wealth of young boxers across the continent. The performances of these talented young athletes prove that Asia will continue to produce world-class boxers who can compete at the highest levels in the world. Overall, the future of boxing in Asia looks bright, with a strong foundation for future boxing stars.

This championship provided a platform for young boxers to gain valuable experience and exposure, which is crucial for their development and the future of boxing in Asia. Due to the large number of boxers, the duration of the competition was long, and each day ended late. It would be better to set up two rings if possible as next.

I am glad to hear that more and more parents are changing their minds and understanding that boxing is not as dangerous as they previously thought. They are now allowing their children to participate in boxing competitions, especially in East Asia, such as Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong. I am sure that schoolboys and schoolgirls will increasingly participate in the sport of boxing. Another feeling was the emotional victory of he boxers who won their first international gold medal. Their joys and tears of happiness were truly heartwarming and inspired many young athletes in attendance.

I was assigned to work on the draw committee for this event. It is a very important job to ensure the competition is fair and neutral. Although it is a challenging task due to the limited selection of referees and judges, it is a great opportunity to learn and gain valuable experience in the draw committee role. I am confident that I will do much better in the future.

In my opinion, I suggest organizing small regional boxing championships for federations at similar levels. This would allow more boxers to experience the feeling of victory and encourage more federations to participate, promoting the development of boxing.

For the local competition, we are planning to organize the final round of the Great Bay China Boxing Championship at the end of December. For the international competition, Macau will participate in the Asian Elite Men’s Boxing Championship in Jordan,” said Mr. Billy Vong after the successful competition.
