Uzbekistan’s and Bukhara’s new pride, Elyor Rustamov was the best Male Junior Boxer in Al Ain

Uzbekistan’s Bukhara-based Elyor Rustamov earned the title of the light flyweight (48kg) in the recent ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and he received also the Best Male Junior Boxer Trophy.

Elyor Rustamov was born in Bukhara on May 25 in 2008 and he began his boxing career short after the amazing Uzbek successes at the Rio Olympic Games.

Following his regional successes, Rustamov earned the title at the 2022 edition of the Uzbekistan Schoolboys National Championships in Ferghana where he defeated a local boy, Saydullokh Egamberdiyev in the final of the 40kg weight category.

He claimed a bronze medal at the 42kg weight class in the 2022 Uzbekistan Junior National Cup in Samarkand despite he was one of the youngest participants. Rustamov had a tight loss to Samarkand’s local favourite, Asilbek Abduraimov in the semi-finals of the event.

The city of Termez hosted the 2023 edition of the Uzbekistan Junior National Championships where Rustamov bagged another bronze medal but at the pinweight (46kg). He was defeated by Sayfiddin Sobirov in a hectic semi-final bout in the busy weight class in Termez.

He defeated all of his opponents unanimously in the 2023 Uzbekistan Junior National Cup in Tashkent including Mukhammadjon Tulaganov and Akhadbek Uraimov in the final stages

Rustamov had four tough opponents in the Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk this July but his technical skills managed his gold medal at the light flyweight (48kg). The Uzbek talent outpointed Azerbaijan’s Nikhat Gasimov in the final of the Games which was his first major international success during his career.

Uzbekistan’s Elyor Rustamov has quickly won his next international competition, the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Al Ain, UAE. The Uzbek boy eliminated Ukraine’s Davyd Molodan in the semi-finals and he controlled his final against Iran’s promising Sahand Najafi. The Uzbek light flyweight (48kg) boxer knew the weak points of his quick opponent and used his perfect tempo to land shots from longer distance. Rustamov continued his unbeaten series in 2024 and he bagged Uzbekistan’s first junior male gold medal in Al Ain.
