The ASBC Extraordinary Congress was a fruitful session in Al Ain

The Asian Boxing Confederation’s Extraordinary Congress took place in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates on August 31 during the competition period of the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships.

The venue of the ASBC Extraordinary Congress was the Grand Ballroom at the Danat Al Ain Resort before the start of the afternoon competition sessions.

The management of the Asian Boxing Confederation decided to arrange an ASBC Extraordinary Congress in the United Arab Emirates one month ago after the Board of Directors meeting in order to vote on joining World Boxing.

The ASBC Extraordinary Congress started with the registrations and ASBC President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira’s speech before the discussion. ASBC Secretary General Mr. Ali Salameh coordinated and led the ASBC Extraordinary Congress.

As the host of the ASBC Extraordinary Congress, Mr. Anas Alotaiba the President of the United Arab Emirates Boxing Federation welcomed all of the participants in the city of the green in Al Ain.

Bahrain, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Chinese Taipei, Timor Leste, Hong Kong, India as observer, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen were there in the Roll Call.

The approval of the Previous Minutes of Meeting was the next point in the agenda of the Congress. The previous ASBC Congress was held in Bangkok, Thailand on October 2023 and the members approved the minutes of the meeting by majority.

Mr. Saken Polatov from Uzbekistan, Mr. Tatsuya Nakama from Japan, Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara from Sri Lanka, Mr. Wan Abdul Hamid of Malaysia, Mr. Durdymammet Kuljayev of Turkmenistan and Mr. Sorbon Gulakhmadov of Tajikistan all underlined the unity of Asian boxing during their speeches in the open discussions.

Following the secret voting by National Federations, Mr. Shohid Tillaboev of Uzbekistan was a scrutineer of the process in Al Ain.

Regarding to joining World Boxing, 21 votes were for no, 14 favoured for yes and 1 vote was invalid in the secret voting.

The Congress disagreed the Board decision to join World Boxing but UAE President Mr. Anas Alotaiba supposed to the Congress to be Asian Boxing Confederation should be an independent body in the future which was failed.

Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, the ASBC President ended the Extraordinary Congress with his Closing Speech.
