India announced its 56-strong team to the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships

India is one of the top boxing nations in the Asian continent with strong expectations in all of their international competitions, especially in the younger age groups.
As Kazakhstan, India will send maximum number of 56 athletes to the upcoming ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships which will open with its first competition day in Al Ain on August 29.
The upcoming ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships will be held in Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates between August 27 and September 10 which is the first top event after the Paris Olympics. Two age groups, two genders and Asia’s best 13, 14, 15 and 16-year-old talents will be competing for the 56 available gold medals in Al Ain.
Five coaches and a physiotherapist supported the preparations of their schoolgirls squad which contains 15 young talents. Deepali Thapa (33kg), Bhoomi (35kg), Laxmi (40kg), Rakhi (43kg), Khushi Chand (46kg), Mandisha Sahu (49kg), Ishika (58kg), Sukhreet (64kg), Manshi Malik (70kg) and Gurserat Kaur (+70kg) all were named as favourites.
Mrs. Geeta Chanu Oinam is the head coach of the Indian women’s junior national team and her boxers amazed in the previous editions. Payal was a newcomer in the 2023 Junior World Boxing Championships but she claimed the gold medal at the women’s light flyweight (48kg) in Yerevan.
Amisha Kerketta, the Junior World silver medallist, remained in her bantamweight (54kg) and she is also among the favourites in Al Ain. Prachi Tokas, another Junior World silver medallist boxer, will be competing at the junior heavyweight (+80kg) with gold medal expectations.
Five coaches including Mr. John Warburton were responsible to select the schoolboys team for the 2nd edition of the championships. Ningthoukhongjam Robash Meitei (33kg) is their smallest boxer in the team, but Aditya Mehra (35kg), Uday Singh (37kg), Nitin (40kg) and Aryan Choudhary (43kg) all have the strong technical skills.
India had fantastic results, almost always gold medals at the men’s junior pinweight (46kg) and their Badhwar Aakash is another favourite. Shubham (48kg), Harsh (50kg), Sheokand Dhiraj (54kg), Duhan Sahil (60kg) and Sangwan Jitesh (66kg) also progressed well enough in the previous months.
Prashant moved up to the light middleweight (70kg) since his last international appearance at the 2023 Junior World Boxing Championships. The defending Asian Junior Champion Hardik Panwar achieved a silver medal at the 2023 Junior World Boxing Championships as well therefore he is the top favourite again at the light heavyweight (80kg).
