The President of the Iranian Boxing Federation, Mr. Seyed Rohollah Hosseini, their former national team member, introduced the development of his nation’s boxing in a unique interview.
The Iranian Youth National Championships was held in the city Oroumieh in West Azerbaijan Province where their new super heavyweight (+92kg) star, the Asian Youth Champion Amir Esmaeili Vandaei dominated his category.
The Iranians proved excellent performance in the recent ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Astana where the country returned to the top of the podium.
“From the day I came, I had plans to develop boxing that are being implemented one by one in the previous months.
We discussed the hiring of prominent coaches, and after a few months of review and negotiation, Fontana, one of the world’s great coaches from Cuba, was selected as the head coach of Iran’s senior national team. Fontes worked with us before him. Now, Hernandez, who is the vice-champion of the Olympics, works with us as the third Cuban coach.
We pay special attention to the basic teams, and accordingly, we hold and continue talent competitions in the junior category in several stages. In addition, our schoolboys, junior and youth, hopes and the elite teams are regularly in camp and sent to competitions.
We started the boxing league after many years of suspension, which was well organized and will definitely be followed with more strength in the new season.
Our junior and youth teams, who are the future builders of this field, will be sent to Al Ain in a few days and I hope they will get good results because we provided them with the best conditions.
We hosted the international refereeing and one-star international coaching course so that our referees and coaches can be updated. This process will continue and we will try so hard to achieve our goals. The last time, in 2016, when I was the Vice-President, the international course was held in Iran, and now it was repeated after eight years, and this process will continue.
The junior teams, the teenagers and all of the age groups are very important for us because we want to build the future of Iranian boxing with investment,” said Mr. Hosseini during the interview.
