Ramisha Shrestha and Trisha Jabegu proved their new skills in the women’s finals at the Prakash Dahal Memorial Championships

Ramisha Shrestha is the new female star in Nepal who claimed a gold medal at the Prakash Dahal Memorial Championships in Kathmandu with superb performance.

Altogether 75 women and 150 men boxers competed in the new edition of the Prakash Dahal Memorial Championships. Twenty-one teams entered in the female part of the competition and among them the Tribhuvan Army Club claimed seven gold medals and topped the team rankings in women’s boxing.

Ramisha Shrestha caused the main sensation at the Prakash Dahal Memorial Championships, she defeated Nepal’s top female boxer, Susma Tamang, their historic Asian U22 Championships silver medallist in the semi-finals of the women’s minimumweight (48kg). Shrestha, who competed first in the 2018 Nepal Youth Novice National Championships, proved her impressive development and she dominated the final against Tribhuvan Army Club’s Aarti Bomjan.

Tribhuvan Army Club’s Lalu Maya Khatri was also dominant in the second final of the competition, she defeated Purnima Tamang at the light flyweight (50kg). Nangja Budha Magar bagged the third female title in the national event, she stopped Roshani Ghalan with strong combinations.

Nepal’s next female sensation, Anjani Teli represents Nepal in the international stage since 2022 and she competed in the Olympic Qualification events as well. The experienced bantamweight (54kg) boxer, who reached the quarter-finals at the 2023 Women’s World Boxing Championships, defeated Bimala Thapa Magar and Sushila Bholan as well.

Minu Gurung is a veteran female boxer, she moved up to the featherweight (57kg) but she had the strong performance against Narika Rai in the final. Two Army boxers such as Barsha Shrestha (60kg) and Niru Gurung (63kg) were the next winners in the Prakash Dahal Memorial Championships.

Punam Rawal competed for Nepal in the Women’s World Boxing Championships and the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships as well therefore she was too strong for Kos Doma Sherpa at the light middleweight (70kg). The ASBC Asian U22 medallist Trisha Jabegu proved her development in the final of the middleweight (75kg) which she dominated against Shila Maharjan.
