Sri Lanka will send 6-strong team to the Constitution Day Tournament which will be held in Seychelles

Sri Lanka will send six boxers out of the country to increase their international experience and met against different styles of opponents. The Sri Lankans arranged a national trial competition before their international challenge in Seychelles.

Their six-strong team will compete in Seychelles’ main event at the Constitution Day Tournament which set to take place in their capital city on June 21-22. The competition will be an international challenge for the countries of that African region from Seychelles, Mauritius, Reunion and Kenya, therefore Sri Lanka joined them to celebrate the host nation’s Constitution Day.

The 40-year-old Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara is the new President in the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and he has plenty of plans to develop boxing in the country with courses, training camps and more competitions.

I.R. Balasooriya will be the head coach of the national team, Abdulla Ibunu will support him as Assistant Coach during the competition. M.U. Kumaratunga is the team manager of the Sri Lankan delegation while A.P.A.N. Ambagala will be their Referee & Judge.

K.G. Pathmasiri from the Sri Lankan Army will be representing the country in the Constitution Day Tournament at the elite middleweight (75kg). He was the Best Male Boxer of the last edition of the Sri Lankan National Boxing Championships and he could be the country’s best weapon in Seychelles.

H.W.G.P. Rathnasiri will compete at the light heavyweight (80kg), the experienced boxer had less chance in the previous years to fight out of the country. D.G. Udayakumara (71kg) from the Sri Lankan Air Force and P.S.S.P. Fernando (67kg) are their further elite national representatives in the upcoming event.

Following the Novice National Championships and the Jayaweera School Boxing Meeting, J.M.T. Deshan from the St. Sylvester’s College and Malith Bandara from the Royal College Colombo have selected to the junior team to compete in Seychelles.
