Eleven boxers made history at the 1st Bahrain National Boxing Championships

The Bahrain Boxing Federation hosted its first ever National Championships where the women’s elite, men’s youth and men’s elite boxers competed for the titles.

The competition venue of the National Championships was the Table Tennis Hall in Isa Town. A 1-star Referee & Judge Course was held also by the time of the Bahrain National Championships with the support of the Instructors, Mr. John Waith of Wales and Mr. Mohamed Braham of Tunisia.

The Kingdom’s first National Boxing Championships was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled Bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Bahrain Combat Sports Council and the General Sports Authority also supported the Bahrain Boxing Federation in this event.

The country joined back to the international boxing business in the beginning of 2019 when a new management arranged the better environment for the sport. Mr. Tony Davis is the head coach of the national team who arranged several organizational matters for this first ever Bahrain National Championships and he became the engine of the competition.

Maryam Khamis of JD Boxing competed in the recent Domestic Boxing Events and she had a successful mission against Rosie Jessop in the women’s bantamweight (54kg) final. Khamis had to keep the concentration until the last gong to win the first ever female national title in Bahrain’s history.

Another JD Boxing member, Youssef Bouzgarrou triumphed over Nikhil Waghnani at the youth light heavyweight (80kg) final. The two further youth winners were Yusuf Abdalla at the light welterweight (63.5kg) and Abdulrahman Ahmed at the super heavyweight (+92kg), both won the finals unanimously.

Tariq Raed became the first elite male National Champion in Bahrain, he stopped Hamad Almannai in the final of the flyweight (51kg). Omar Budhahei won all of the three rounds on the scorecards against Nazim Khan and he became the winner of the featherweight (57kg).

Prakash Limbu competed for Nepal at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event but his skills were not enough to beat Muhammad Lukwago in the next final. Mohammed Fakhr of JD Boxing dominated the light middleweight (71kg) final against Dany Ellahib and he won the fourth elite male title.

Ali Asad and Okafor Chukwumaobim both won their title bouts by 3:2 split decisions and earned the titles of the light heavyweight (80kg) and heavyweight (92kg). Augustine Isaac was unstoppable at the super heavyweight (+92kg), he smashed Amir Ndusya in the final still in the first round.
