Paalam and Jongjoho acquired the tickets to the Olympics

Philippines’ Carlo Paalam and Thailand’s Weerapon Jongjoho qualified for the Olympics at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok today evening.

Kazakhstan’s Nazym Kyzaibay is a counter-puncher but she moved forward this time against Great Britain’s Savannah Stubbley and her tactical change was successful in the first round. The former two-time World Champion Kazakh proved her very best in the second round and her routine secured her place in the last eight at the women’s light flyweight (50kg).

The North Koreans have fantastic women boxers, two of them have already qualified for Paris through the Asian Games but their light flyweight (50kg) talent, Kang Su Hyang are still aiming for a spot. She controlled the exchanges from longer range against Ukraine’s 37-year-old veteran, Tetiana Kob and despite her warning, the North Korean advanced to the quarter-finals in Bangkok.

India’s Jaismine Lamboriya moved back to her original category to the featherweight (57kg) in the previous weeks and she is aiming for their fourth female Olympic quota in Bangkok. The 22-year-old boxer used her height advantage against Switzerland’s Ana-Marija Milisic and her best round was the second in this contest when the referee counted her rival. Jaismine was fresh and focused in the last round as well therefore she will now meet for the quota Mali’s ex-French Marine Fatoumata Camara.

Xu Zichun is the only Chinese female boxer in Bangkok, all of the other five national team members have already qualified for the Olympics. Xu had better shots in the first round than Czech Republic’s professional boxer Lucie Sedlackova and she landed more clear jabs in the second. The Chinese featherweight (57kg) boxer was too smart for the Czech girl and she needs more step against Romania’s Claudia Nechita to qualify for Paris.

Thailand’s Nilawan Techasuep, the 2018 Asian Games bronze medallist, not only returned to the national team after one year of break but she managed her way to the quarter-finals at the women’s featherweight (57kg). The tall boxer was dominant against Vietnam’s Nguyen Huyen Tran and she will meet for the quota Turkey’s Esra Yildiz Kahraman tomorrow.

Philippines’ Carlo Paalam and India’s Sachin Siwach met for the quota at the men’s featherweight (57kg) today which was one of the most anticipated contests of the evening session. The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist smaller Filipino used an aggressive style of boxing against the Indian who had the longer reach in this semi-final. Paalam’s pressure paid off in this key quota bout and he celebrated his emotional success after the last gong.

Two of the top Asians such as Thailand’s Weerapon Jongjoho and Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish met for the quota of the light heavyweight (80kg) in their exciting semi-final. The taller Thai kept the fighting distance well in the first and even better in the second round to take the lead on the scorecards. Iashaish was not energetic enough in this contest today and the 23-year-old local boxer achieved the Olympic spot.
