Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbay Uulu became the first Asian quarter-finalist in Bangkok
Kazakhstan’s Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbay Uulu is one of the first boxers who reached the quarter-finals at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok.
Altogether 579 boxers from 133 countries are participating in the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok where the total number of the available quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics is 51. The number of the coaches, officials and team delegations members is 610 in Thailand.
Vietnam’s Ha Thi Linh, the Southeast Asian Games winner, has been competing at the lightweight (60kg) in Bangkok and she performed even better than in the previous preliminary round. The Vietnamese boxer did not underestimate Uruguay’s best female hope, Paola Pineiro today and she won their meeting by 4:1 split decision which means that she will box for the last four with Croatia’s Sara Beram.
South Korea’s three-time Asian Champion Oh Yeon Ji did not qualify for the Olympics yet but she moved on to the next stage of boxing in the evening session today. The Korean lightweight (60kg) boxer proved better performance than in her last appearance in Bangkok and she is now a quarter-finalist following her success over Esmeralda Falcon of Mexico. The 34-year-old Oh will have a star opponent in the last eight, Great Britain’s two-time World Champion Amy Broadhurst.
Ankushita Boro made a huge surprise since the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in the previous weeks due to her weight loss. The 24-year-old Indian moved down two categories and she competes at the women’s lightweight (60kg)in Bangkok. Following her first success in the event, she bowed out her second rival out of the way, a top name, Kazakhstan’s Asian Champion Rimma Volosenko.
Kazakhstan’s former Asian Youth Champion Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbay Uulu had a very tough draw at the light welterweight (63.5kg) but he became the first from Asia who reached the quarter-finals in Bangkok. The 22-year-old boxer dictated the tempo against Italy’s Gianluigi Malanga from the first seconds and his multiple shots were effective to win this contest by 4:1 split decision.
India’s light middleweight (71kg) No.1, Nishant Dev joined the elite national team in 2021 and he defeated several stars in these period. The World Championships bronze medallist faced another boxer who was born in 2000, Peerapat Yeasungnoen of Thailand who had three tough battles in Bangkok during the earlier stages. Yeasungnoen was not enough fresh and quick today to beat the Indian who had several clear shots to win this bout unanimously.
Jordan’s Tokyo Olympian Zeyad Eshaish is a fantastic boxer at the men’s light middleweight (71kg) with strong quota potential. Jordan’s pride used his own game play against another Olympian boxer, Eskerkhan Madiev of Georgia today which bout was a decisive battle for the quarter-finals. The Asian Games bronze medallist Eshaish was punctual and effective today therefore he won the bout of the 1998 born boxers in Bangkok.
