Kyrgyzstan’s Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev is ready to show his impressive technical skills in Bangkok
Kyrgyzstan selected six strong male boxers for the upcoming 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from May 24.
The 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event is the last opportunity for all of the competitors to earn quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Kyrgyzstan achieved a historic gold medal at the Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan last year and the country impressed at the recent ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships as well but their elite boxers did not get any quotas yet.
Kyrgyzstan could qualify boxers to the 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 editions of the Olympic Games and Sydney was their best with five quotas in our sport.
Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev won the Strandja Memorial Tournament and the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial this year and he moved up to the flyweight (51kg). The 22-year-old boxer replaced Nurzhigit Dyushebayev in the national team and he has the fantastic technical skills and tricky style of boxing to outpoint his opponents in Bangkok.
Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu is Kyrgyzstan’s first historic medallist from a World Elite Boxing Championships, he claimed a bronze in Tashkent one year ago. The 28-year-old tall boxer moved back to the featherweight (57kg) and he has the routine and the strong tactical skills to beat many of the stars in his category.
Askat Kultayev was quarter-finalist at the Asian Games in Hangzhou and he defeated strong rivals last September but the 22-year-old boxer missed the Olympic quota. Mirzokhid Imamnazarov represented Kyrgyzstan in Busto Arsizio but Kultayev has the second chance to earn the spot in Bangkok.
The Asian Youth Champion Nuradin Rustambek Uulu is a highly decorated Kyrgyz boxer who regained his place in the national team at the light middleweight (71kg). The Asian Championships bronze medallist replaced Syrgak Abdyzhapar Uulu and he also has the second chance in a qualification event as Kultayev.
The World Championships quarter-finalist Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu is another ASBC medallist in the national team who has five years of elite international experience. The 24-year-old boxer is small at the light heavyweight (80kg) but his energetic and attacking styles are uncomfortable for many of the rivals.
The three-time ASBC Asian bronze medallist Erkin Adylbek Uulu was Kyrgyzstan’s last Olympian boxer who carried the national flag in the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro edition. The 33-year-old veteran’s best category is the cruiserweight (86kg) but that is not an Olympic category therefore Adylbek Uulu will compete at the heavyweight (92kg) in Bangkok.
